Mahindra is working on an all-electric version of its popular XUV 700, expected to be called the XEV 7e upon launch. The electric SUV has been spotted undergoing testing, with new spy pictures revealing exciting design and feature updates.
The spy shot shows the XEV 7e test mule, which is heavily camouflaged but offers some clear design cues. From the side, the electric SUV closely resembles the regular XUV 700. However, several design elements have been borrowed from Mahindra's electric lineup, especially the XEV 9e.
Key design highlights include:
- Inverted L-shaped DRLs
- Blanked-off grille for improved aerodynamics
- Aero-optimized wheels
- Flush-type door handles similar to those seen on the XUV 700 and XEV 9e
- Dual-tone alloy wheels
- Panoramic sunroof

Inside, the XEV 7e will borrow heavily from the XEV 9e. The cabin is expected to feature:
- Multi-zone climate control
- Triple screen setup
- Powered and ventilated front seats with memory function
- 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos
- Ambient lighting
- Mahindra's new-age two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo
- Remote parking features (expected to be carried over from the XEV 9e)
The XEV 7e is expected to be based on Mahindra’s in-house developed INGLO platform, a versatile skateboard platform capable of supporting various electric vehicle body types.
Powertrain options are likely to include:
- 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery packs, sourced from the BE6 and XEV 9e
- A larger 79 kWh battery could offer a range of around 600 km per charge
There are also rumors that the XEV 7e could feature a new set of 60-65 kWh battery options for lower trims, and an 80+ kWh unit for higher-end AWD variants. The batteries will support superfast charging, with faster charging times than the Harrier EV.
Earlier, the XEV 7e was expected to come with a rear-axle-mounted motor and Rear Wheel Drive (RWD). However, in response to Tata Motors' success with an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) Harrier EV, Mahindra is reportedly considering a dual-motor setup for the XEV 7e. The lower variants could feature RWD, while higher variants may come with AWD, delivering an expected 325 hp.
While Mahindra has not confirmed the official launch timeline for the XEV 7e, it is expected to arrive by late 2025. Mahindra is set to unveil several electric vehicles at a mega event on August 15, 2025, and the XEV 7e could possibly make its debut there. Once launched, it will sit between the BE6 and XEV 9e in Mahindra’s electric vehicle lineup.
