The long-awaited Tata Sierra SUV will finally go on sale in India in November 2025. The company will first launch the ICE-powered model, while its EV version is set to go on sale by the end of this year - around December 2025. For people not in the know, the near-production version of the Sierra was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2025.
The new Sierra ICE will be offered with both petrol and diesel engine choices. It will be powered by a new 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that is claimed to produce around 170PS and 280Nm of torque. This engine will be paired to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT. If reports are to be believed, the Sierra will also get a new 1.5L, 4-cylinder NA petrol engine.
The diesel version is likely to be powered by a 2.0L turbo unit that powers the Harrier and Safari. This engine produces 170PS and 350Nm of torque, and is paired to either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. The lower-spec variants could also get the 1.5L diesel engine that powers the Nexon. This engine produces 118PS and 260Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.
The Sierra will be Tata’s new model in the highly competitive mid-sized SUV category. Tata Motors will aim to price the new Sierra competitively, and will employ new naturally-aspirated petrol and a smaller 1.5L diesel engine. We believe that the new Tata Sierra could price as low as Rs 10.50 lakh, while the top-spec model is likely to be priced around Rs 20 lakh.
The new Tata Sierra will be marketed as a lifestyle SUV and will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Maruti Victoris, Honda Elevate, VW Taigun and Skoda Kushaq.
The Sierra will be the first Tata to get a triple screen layout, which was showcased at the Auto Expo. There will be larger central infotainment unit, a co-occupant entertainment screen and a driver’s display. In terms of features, the SUV will get a 4-spoke steering wheel with illuminated Tata logo, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, ventilated front seats, a premium sound system, and others.
The new SUV will come with multiple airbags, front and rear parking sensors, ESP, traction control system, ABS with EBD, a 360-degree camera, and a LEVEL 2 advanced driver assistance suite (ADAS).
