Design follows brand’s ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ language To be offered with petrol powertrains only Expected to launch in August 2023
Ahead of its imminent launch, Hyundai Motor India has revealed a new teaser image of the upcoming Exter. The latest image showcases the front-end design sketch of the new micro-SUV. Interestingly, it features completely different styling from any Hyundai model currently being sold in the country. We take a closer look.
The just released design sketch showcases the front-end of the upcoming Exter, which sports a unique design unlike any other Hyundai sold in India. The micro-SUV follows the brand’s ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language with a split H-shaped LED DRL and headlight setup. The flat bonnet offers Hyundai’s new 2D logo while the DRLs sit just below it. However, unlike the New Hyundai Verna, it is not a full-width light bar. Instead, the units are housed in darkened enclosures on both ends of the SUV. The front bumper has a squared-off and upright design, with the wide grille flanked by the headlight units.
The render further reveals the Exter featuring a faux front aluminium skid plate, flared wheel arches, and blacked-out A-pillars for a floating roof effect. While the Korean automaker is yet to reveal the rear end of the vehicle, expect the micro-SUV to provide a boot lid spoiler and LED tail lights connected by a full-width lightbar.
Hyundai Exter will be based on the Grand i10 NIOS, sharing the underpinnings of the hatchback but will feature better ground clearance and a tweaked suspension. The company is likely to offer two powertrain options with the SUV. This will include a 1.2-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine which will deliver a maximum power output of 83 bhp with 114 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options on offer will be a 5-speed manual and an AMT gearbox.
The other powertrain choice would be a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine. While details are scarce, we expect it to be the same motor that was offered in the Hyundai Aura and Grand i10 NIOS Turbo till very recently. The brand could also introduce a CNG-powered variant sometime in the near future.
The Exter is slated to be launched in India during the month of August 2023. Since it will sit between the Grand i10 NIOS and Venue in the brand’s product lineup, expect Hyundai to price it between Rs 6.50 lakh to Rs 10.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
Upon launch, Hyundai Exter will rival the likes of the Citroen C3 and the Tata Punch in its segment.
