Hyundai Tucson has become the first car from the South Korean automaker to undergo Bharat NCAP crash tests, achieving an impressive 5-star safety rating for both adult and child occupant protection. The premium SUV scored 30.84 points out of 32 for adult occupant protection (AOP) and 41 points out of 49 for child occupant protection (COP).
Additionally, it complies with AIS-100 pedestrian protection standards. The crash test was conducted on the top-end 2.0L petrol-powered automatic Signature variant, which comes equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), three-point seatbelts with reminders for all passengers, and Isofix anchors for rear seats as part of its standard safety kit.
In the frontal offset and deformable barrier test, the Tucson scored 14.84 out of 16 points. It provided good protection to the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck, while chest and feet protection for the driver was rated as adequate. The SUV excelled in the side movable deformable barrier test, achieving a full score of 16 out of 16, indicating robust side impact protection. However, the side pole impact test result was rated as "OK." The Tucson also passed the ESC test requirements. Interestingly, the BNCAP report did not include information about the bodyshell and footwell area integrity.
The Tucson scored full points in the dynamic and CRS installation tests, securing 24 out of 24 and 12 out of 12, respectively. However, it received only 5 points out of 12 in the vehicle assessment test. During the crash tests, child dummies representing an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old were placed rearward-facing on the front passenger seat using Isofix anchorages and a support leg.
The Hyundai Tucson is offered with two engine options: a 156bhp 2.0L naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox and a 186bhp 2.0L diesel engine coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The top-end Platinum trim includes advanced features such as an ADAS suite, all-wheel drive (AWD), and a 360-degree camera.
Its standard safety equipment comprises a tyre pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors with a reversing camera, six airbags, rain-sensing wipers, blind-spot and surround-view monitors, automatic headlamps, and cruise control.
