Skoda Auto is a Czech automobile manufacturer which was established in 1925 as a successor to Laurin & Klement (a Czech automobile company). Its headquarter is located in Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic. In 1948, Skoda Works became state-owned and gradually privatized to the German Volkswagen Group after 1991. During the course of time, it became a partial subsidiary in 1994 and then a completely owned subsidiary in 2000. The Indian subsidiary of the Czech brand was founded in 2001. Their manufacturing facility is situated in Aurangabad, Maharashtra and the research facility in Pune, Maharashtra. The brand kicked off its entry in India with the Octavia model which was ahead of its time as it offered supreme build quality, unique exterior design, premium interior, space for its occupants, a humongous boot to carry a whole lot of luggage, great engine and performance. All these factors contributed to its instant success for the company. Under the hood, the car was equipped with a 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine that was capable of generating 147 bhp of power output and 210 Nm of peak torque. During that time, only a few cars offered advanced features but in the case of Skoda Octavia it came equipped with equipment like ABS, ORVMs, dual-front airbags, power windows, and more. All in all, the performance, handling, and lower initial price made the Octavia win the hearts of Indian customers. Current Model Lineup At present, Skoda is offering three sedans and two SUVs for the Indian car market. These five models include Skoda Kushaq, Skoda Slavia, Skoda Octavia, Skoda Superb and Skoda Kodiaq. Prices for the Skoda cars fall in the range of Rs 11.29 lakh to Rs 39.90 lakh (ex-showroom). While Kushaq is the cheapest model with a price range of Rs 11.59 lakh to Rs 19.69 lakh (ex-showroom), the Kodiaq is the most expensive within the brand's portfolio that ranges between Rs 37.49 lakh to Rs 39.90 lakh (ex-showroom). According to the sales report of February 2023, the Skoda Kushaq was the best-selling model from the brand. 1783 units of this subcompact SUV were sold during the period. Skoda Slavia came in second as the sedan was able to sell 1274 units in the month of February 2023. Upcoming Skoda Cars Skoda Auto is likely to expand its product portfolio in India. Apart from the existing five cars, the automaker has a lineup of new car models to be launched in the country. It includes the names of Skoda Octavia RS iV, Skoda Enyaq iV, Skoda Fabia Facelift, and Skoda Slavia RS. Upcoming Skoda EVs You Should Be Excited For Under the ambitious India 2.0 program, Czech automaker, Skoda cars has localised, a modular global platform to develop products specific to the Indian market. This concerted push is helping Skoda regain gain a foothold in the highly-competitive Indian automobile market. Building on the success of the record sales numbers of 37,568 units in 2022, Skoda Auto plans to launch its first EV in India. Skoda Enyaq iV: All Electric SUV The Enyaq electric crossover will be the first of the upcoming Skoda EV cars in India. Initially, the electric vehicle will be imported as CBU (Completely Build Unit) with a ‘made in India’ model expected to arrive at a later stage as part of the VW Group’s MOU with Mahindra & Mahindra. The EV approach was outlined at a global event in Prague by Klaus Zellmer, the newly appointed global CEO of Skoda Auto. He said, “The way forward for ŠKODA in India will be a balance between ICE and EVs. In the immediate future, our portfolio will be ICE oriented but we have already brought in some ŠKODA Enyaq’s to India, which are being tested across the country.” The upcoming Skoda Enyaq iV is an electric crossover based on the VW Group’s MEB-born electric platform that underpins VW ID4, Audi Q4 e-Tron. Expected to be a 5-seater SUV, Enyaq iV will measure 4,648 mm in length and 1,877 mm in width and will be 1,616 mm tall. These dimensions make the electric crossover slightly smaller than the Skoda Kodiaq selling in the Indian market. More on the model spotted testing on the Indian roads; it would appear to be the Enyaq iV Lounge trim. Expect features like 19-inch Proteus alloy wheels, ambient lighting, a digital instrument cluster, 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The upcoming EV interior would sport a leather-wrapped steering wheel, premium upholstery, and contrasting yellow stitching on the seats. Skoda Enyaq iV: Powertrain Worldwide, the Skoda Enyaq iV boasts two battery options- 55 kWh and 82 kWh. The former delivers a 390 km drive on a full charge, while the latter gives 510 km of driving. Depending on the market, Skoda Enyaq comes in 5 versions- three RWD (rear-wheel drive) and two 4WD (four-wheel drive). Following the release of the first teaser of the New Superb, Škoda has now confirmed that the next-gen sedan will be coming to India this year. The new Superb will offer a sharper design, revamped interior with added features, and new powertrain options. We take a closer look. Next-Generation Škoda Superb: What will it look like? While the first teaser did not reveal much, it did give us a few cues of the next-gen Superb’s styling. The overall design is said to be an evolution of the current model, but will feature some key differences. Up the front, the premium sedan will get new C-shaped headlights and LED DRLs along with a redesigned bumper and grille. The side profile will feature sharper character lines for a more aggressive look. Towards the rear, it will offer C-shaped wraparound LED taillights that may be connected to a full-width light bar while the boot lid will feature an integrated spoiler. Next-Generation Škoda Superb: Powertrain Details The All-New Superb may be offered in India with a strong-hybrid powertrain. Globally, the sedan is available with a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine paired with a single electric motor. Its combined power output stands at 215 bhp with 400 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duty will be handled by a 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox. Škoda had recently discontinued the current-gen Superb in India as its turbo-petrol engine did not comply with the new BS6 Phase II Emission Norms. Next-Gen Škoda Superb: Launch Date and Price in India The upcoming Skoda Superb is expected to launch in India by the end of 2023, likely around the festive period. Media reports suggest that Škoda may bring the next-gen sedan in India via the CKD route and assembling it locally. Skoda India has announced the launch of the 2023 Kodiaq SUV. The company has priced its 7-seater SUV at Rs 37.99 lakh (ex-showroom). In addition, the automaker updated its Kodiaq SUV in accordance with new BS6 Phase 2 Emission Norms. It also gets a bunch of new features and improved mileage. Let us get into more details: 2023 Skoda Kodiaq: New Features Update Several new features have been added to the New Kodiaq SUV to improve its driving experience. The SUV is now available with a door-edge protector to avoid causing damage while opening or closing the doors. It also gets a rear spoiler to improve airflow. Apart from that the four-wheeler is now offered with outer headrests to add more comfort and safety. The second-row passengers can also enjoy a lounge step. 2023 Skoda Kodiaq: BS6-Compliant Engine The 2023 Skoda Kodiaq has undergone updates to meet BS6 Phase 2 Emission Norms. It now offers a 2.0-litre TSI EVO turbo-petrol engine which is capable of delivering 187 bhp of power and 320 Nm of peak torque. According to Skoda, the upgraded powertrain is 4.2 percent more fuel-efficient than the outgoing model. Besides, the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 7.8 seconds. It also has a 4x4 drive system. The brand also offers 6 different driving modes namely Eco, Comfort, Normal, Individual, Sport, and Snow. As per the new updates, the price of the base model has been increased by Rs 50,000. It is now priced at Rs 37.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
