Renault has revealed the all-new Boreal globally in its 5-seater avatar, marking the debut of the third-generation model. However, the brand has bigger plans for markets like India, where it will also introduce a 7-seater version of the SUV, likely to be called the Renault Boreal.
This upcoming model will be positioned as a direct rival to popular 3-row SUVs such as the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, and MG Hector Plus. The India launch of the 7-seater Boreal is expected to take place in 2026.

Renault Boreal shares most of its design elements with the third-generation Duster, which is already on sale in Europe as the Dacia Duster. It sports a bold grille featuring Renault’s new logo, LED headlamps connected by a glossy black strip, and a sportier front bumper with a wider air dam. The SUV also comes with pull-type front door handles and rear door handles integrated into the B-pillar for a cleaner look.
Other design highlights include chunky black cladding on the squarish wheel arches, roof rails, and bold shoulder lines. At the back, the Boreal gets stylish LED tail lamps, a large black bumper, silver skid plate, and a small rear spoiler, giving it a strong and rugged appearance.
While Renault hasn’t revealed the full interior yet, the Boreal is expected to come packed with modern features. These may include:
- A large landscape-oriented touchscreen infotainment system
- 7-inch digital instrument cluster
- Flat-bottom multi-function steering wheel
- Wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay
- Wireless phone charging
- Panoramic sunroof
- Dual-zone climate control
- Powered front seats
- Terrain control modes
- Multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, and electronic stability control
- Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) Level 2 features
The global version of the Renault Boreal will be offered with multiple engine choices, including a flex-fuel option. For India, the SUV is expected to share its powertrain with the 5-seater Duster. This includes a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 151bhp and 250Nm of torque.
A strong hybrid version is also expected. The 5-seater Duster hybrid will likely pair a 1.6-litre petrol engine (94bhp) with two electric motors and a 1.2kWh battery pack, producing a combined 140bhp. The Boreal may get a similar setup with a 108bhp petrol engine, a 51bhp electric motor, and a 1.4kWh battery, offering around 155bhp.
Renault could also offer all-wheel drive (AWD) versions of both the Duster and Boreal in India, making them more capable for varied terrains.
The Renault Boreal (7-seater Duster) is expected to arrive in India sometime after the launch of the new 5-seater Duster, likely in late 2025 or early 2026. With a bold design, modern features, hybrid powertrain, and optional AWD, the upcoming Boreal SUV is set to shake up the 3-row SUV market in India.
