Kia is slated to fully reveal the Sonet Facelift in India on the 14th of December 2023. Ahead of its launch, the Korean automaker has started creating excitement around its subcompact SUV. The brand today released a new teaser video that gives viewers a glimpse into some of the key design changes and interior updates that the vehicle would be getting. We take a closer look.
The official teaser reveals the front-end design of the upcoming SUV that features new LED headlights, which are similar to the recently updated Kia Seltos. Flanking it are the new LED DRLs that extend down vertically. The bumper has been redesigned as well with horizontal fog lights positioned just below the air intakes.
Besides the exterior, the interior too seems to have been upgraded as per the teaser. As expected, the dashboard layout will remain the same with the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system sitting atop it. The Sonet Facelift does get new features like a fully digital instrument cluster with multiple graphic options, and a mini screen that displays the climate control details with a row of physical toggle buttons just below. Leaked pictures have also revealed that the four-wheeler will offer new brown upholstery and a rear seat armrest.
The biggest update for the New Kia Sonet will be the introduction of ADAS-Tech. While the manufacturer is yet to confirm it, the latest reports suggest the car will get Level 1 ADAS features such as High Beam Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Avoidance Assistance and Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, and more.
Mechanically, Kia Sonet Facelift will be offered with the same powertrain options as the current model. Petrol engine options will include a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated unit making 83 bhp with 115 Nm of peak torque and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol mill that pumps out 120 bhp alongside 172 Nm torque. The oil burner here would include a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel motor delivering a maximum power output of 116 bhp with 250 Nm of peak torque. Transmission choices would include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed iMT, a 6-speed automatic, and a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox.
Kia is expected to officially reveal the pricing of the Sonet Facelift by early next year. One should assume that the new pricing will be slightly higher than the current model which ranges between Rs 7.79 lakh to Rs 14.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Upon launch, it will rival the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Renault Kiger, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, and Nissan Magnite.
