On the occasion of World EV day, Car Lelo brings to you an extensive list of 10 upcoming Electric cars in India. It was first time in 2020, that  9th of September was observed as World EV day. Since then every year campaigns are run to educate people around the globe about the importance of e-mobility. With the EV wave picking up pace, this day is important now than ever before. So here is a list of upcoming electric cars in India:-

1. Tata Curvv and Avinya Concept

Tata Curvv and Avinya Concept

Showcased in April 2022, The Curvv and Avinya concepts showcase Tata Motor’s Gen2 and Gen3 EV architecture. Comletely unique from each other, this concepts help customers understand the brands transition from ICE platforms to pure EV platforms in the near future.

Avinya Concept

The Curvv is a coupe-SUV concept that is based on the Gen2 architecture which is an adaptation of the ICE construction which does the duty of the Nexon EV. On the other hand, the Avinya is a grounds-up EV and is based on a new pure EV architecture. The cars built using the Curvv concept as base will be available as both ICEs and EVs, while the Avinya will be a pure electric breed showcasing the way for company’s future electric portfolio. The concepts are expected to offer a range of 450-500 kilometres on a single charge and go on sale starting end of 2024.

2. BYD Atto 3

Set to be introduced in India on the 11th October 2022, the BYD Atto 3 will be the Chinese automakers first mass-market offering in the country. Sold via the CKD route, the four-wheeler is expected to be priced competitively and offer two battery option. The first is a 49.92 kWh unit with 320 kilometres of range, while the other is a larger 60.48 kWh long-range pack offering 420 kilometres on a full charge. The BYD Atto 3 Upcoming Electric is expected to come powered by a single motor set-up that is sufficient for 201 bhp and 310 Nm. The Electric SUV sprints from 0-100 kmph in just 7.1 seconds. 

3. Tata Altroz EV

The third Tata Motors car on the list is the Altroz EV. First showcased at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show, this electrified version of the standard Altroz Upcoming Electric will be built on the company’s Gen1 EV architecture. Sporting the same overall appearance as the ICE model, the EV will carry some nifty design touches like a blanked-out front grille, blue highlights all over and an updated cabin layout to showcase its electric intent. The car is expected to come equipped with a 40kWh battery pack offering a range of around 400 kilometres. When launched (sometime in 2023) the Altroz EV is expected to be priced between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom) making it a value-for-money EV offering in the country.

4. Mercedes Benz EQB All-Electric SUV

Expanding its EV portfolio, Mercedes Benz India is committed to launching its third major EV model in the country before the end of 2022. Globally launched at the end of 2021, the Mercedes Benz EQB is the electrified version of the GLB 7-seater luxury SUV. Taking design cues from the company EQ line-up, the 7-seater EV will sport a blanked-off front grille with a digital face. The continuous taper to the LED lights alogn with the new aero wheels and the roof spoiler give the large vehicle an aggressive look. The EQB is expected to be offered in two variants. The first is the 300 4MATIC, a dual motor set-up unit that is capable of producing 228 bhp while the other is a more powerful 350 4MATIC that is good enough for 292 bhp. Both variants are expected to come with an electric range of 418 kilometres.

5. MG Air EV

The small 2-door EV from MG Motor India is expected to debut at the Auto Expo 2022, with a market launch likely to happen before the end of April 2023. Codenamed E230, this four-wheeler will be the MG’s version of the Wuling’s Air EV sold in China. Based on the brand’s Global Small Electric Vehicles (GSEV) platform, the Air EV Upcoming Electric will be set to get considerable changes to its battery’s thermal management system and cell construction to cope with the harsh climatic conditions India has to offer. Measuring just under 3 metres in length, the four-wheeler will be the country’s smallest electric vehicle targeted at urban commuters. It wis expected to come powered by a 25 kWh battery pack, offering a claimed range of around 150 kilometres.

6. Volvo C40 Recharge

During the launch of its first all-electric SUV, the XC40 Recharge in India, Volvo India committed to launching its next EV, the C40 Recharge in the country. Globally launched at the end of 2021, this electric coupe SUV will debut in the Indian market sometime during 2023 and will be offered as a CKD product. Based on company’s CMA platform, the C40 Recharge is offered in three trim levels globally i.e. Core, Plus and Ultimate. The entry level Core trim gets a 67kWh battery pack producing 231 bhp and 330 Nm of peak torque from its single electric motor, while the other two variants, get a dual motor set-up mated to a 75 kWh battery pack churning out 406 horses and 660 Nm of peak torque. Both versions offer a similar driving range of 430 kilometres on a single charge.

7. Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4 Matic

The 2nd Mercedes Benz car on the list is the EQS 580 4 Matic all-electric sedan. Set for a market launch on the September 21 in India, this is the locally produced version of the company’s luxury electric sedan, the EQS. Built on the brand’s EVA (Electric Vehicle Architecture) platform, the four-wheeler is expected to come with a 107.8 kWh battery pack offering a claimed range of 550 kilometres on a single charge. The dual motor setup on the car is rated for a maximum power output of 523 bhp and peak torque of 856 Nm.

8. Hyundai IONIQ 5

After years of wait, Hyundai India has finally committed to introducing its second electric product in the country. Sibling to the Kia EV6, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 Upcoming Electric was recently spotted dong test runs on Indian roads. Expected to go on sale by early 2023, the four-wheeler will most likely get assembled at the company’s Chennai plant to have a competitive edge over the competition. Based on the brand’s e-GMP platform, the EV is offered with two battery pack options globally. The first is a 58 kWh unit using a 169 bhp (single motor) offering a claimed range of 383 kilometres while the other is a larger 72.6 kWh unit (dual motor setup), offering AWD capabilities. The four-wheeler will largely resemble its international counterpart; however minor changes will be carried out to make it more suitable for Indian road conditions.

9. Skoda Enyaq iV All-Electric SUV

Upon launch, the Skoda Enyaq iV will be the first EV offering from Czech manufacturer in India. Expected to make its debut in the first quarter of 2023, this all-electric SUV has been spied multiple times during test runs. Expected to be offered via the CBU route, the four-wheeler is underpinned by Volkswagen Group’s MEB modular architecture. Internationally, the Enyaq iV Upcoming Electric is offered in five trim levels, namely 50, 60, 80, 80X and the sporty vRS. But based on the rumours and the spy shots we expect the company to launch the EV in its 80X guise, which gets the largest battery pack (77 kWh) and all-wheel-drive option. This set-up is dishes out 265 bhp while offering an electric driving range of 520 kms. The EV can complete the 0-100 kmph run in under 7 seconds and supports 125 kW DC fast charging.

10. Mahindra 5 New Upcoming Born Electric Vision SUVs

Mahindra 5 New Upcoming Born Electric Vision SUVs

Globally unveiled on 15th August 2022, Mahindra’s 5 New All-Electric SUVs under its Born Electric Vision Program are divided into two sub-brands which are specifically dedicated to EVs. Touted as BE and XUV, the BE range comprises of 3 models i.e. BE.05, BE.06 and BE.07 while the XUV range have XUV.e8 and XUV.e9 in its portfolio. The vehicle in the BE range are ground up EVs and will primarily aim at new creating a new customer base while being a part of the brand’s global product line-up. On the other hand, the XUV range will carry forward the Mahindra’s rugged SUV legacy with a hint of electrification and these will be the electrified versions of the current SUV range. All these EVs will be based on the all-new INGLO skateboard platform and will sport a flat floor bed ensuring better space inside the cabin. Four of these 5 models will launch between 2024 and 2026, while the home-grown SUV maker is yet to confirm the launch timeline for the 5th model. The XUV.e8, the electrified version of XUV700, will be the first launch of the line-up which is scheduled for December 2024. The battery capacity of these EVs will range between 60-80 kWh while supporting up to 175 kW of fast charging which can juice up the battery to 80% in less than 30 minutes. These battery packs will churn out a power output of around 225 bhp to 280 bhp for rear-wheel drive and 335 bhp to 388 bhp for the all-wheel drive version, while offering a claimed electric driving range of 435-450 kilometres on a single charge.
