China-based BYD to launch its electric SUV soon in India; Atto 3 will rival the MG ZS EV, Tata Nexon EV MAX and the Hyundai Kona EV; To be priced around 25 lakhs.
BYD (Build Your Dreams), the world’s largest EV manufacturer will debut in the Indian market sooner than expected. The Chinese-based EV maker will introduce the Atto 3 all-electric SUV in India around the festive season. Expected to be priced around 25 lakhs, the four-wheeler will take on the likes of the MG ZS EV, Tata Nexon EV MAX and the Hyundai Kona EV in its segment. The company has committed to locally produce the EV at its manufacturing facility in Chennai. Schedule for the next two years includes sale of around 10,000 units.
In terms of design, the Atto 3 is definitely a good looking product with a cross-over-like stance. The vehicle comes with sharp lines on the outside, giving it an overall sporty intent. On the inside, the EV feels upmarket with a large digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, 360-degree parking camera and more. As is the norm with 2022 cars, the Atto 3 id expected to come equipped with top of the line safety features like 7 airbags, ESP, HAS, TPMS and ADAS tech.
The car will be offered with two battery options. The first is a 49.92 kWh unit with 320 kilometres of range and the other is a larger 60.48 kWh long range pack offering a range of 420 kilometres. The EV is capable of producing a maximum power unit of 201 bhp and peak torque of 310 Nm, enabling a 0-100 kmph sprint in just 7.1 second. The system accepts 80 kW DC fast charging that can charge the battery from 0 to full in under an hour.
