In the last decade or so, Mahindra & Mahindra has gone from being a struggling automaker to one of the market leaders in the SUVs segment and especially for safety. The brand currently offers the highest number of vehicles in India that have at least a 4-Star Safety Rating from Global NCAP. But what is Mahindra exactly doing to make their cars safer? Today we take a look at some notable features that differentiate it from its competitors.

One of the biggest but probably overlooked things that make Mahindra cars so safe is their choice of materials used. Recent launches like the Scorpio N, XUV700 and XUV400 use different types of high strength steel and aluminium in their construction that make the SUVs comparatively safer in the event of a crash than their rivals.

Mahindra in the past have stated that you have to make cars lighter in order to make them safer. To achieve this, the automaker also uses materials like magnesium and plastic in different areas of the vehicle’s body to bring the weight down.
Mahindra has established a reputation for making some of the safest cars you can buy in India today. Currently, it offers three models that have received 5-Star Rating in Adult Occupant Safety from Global NCAP. This includes the names of Mahindra XUV300, XUV700, and the Scorpio N.
The newly launched Mahindra XUV400 is an electric vehicle based on the XUV300, so expect it to score a 5-Star Rating as well. Even the Marazzo MPV and the Thar SUV have scored well with an Adult Occupant Safety Rating of 4 Star. The only other automaker that comes close to Mahindra in terms of safety is Tata Motors which also offers three cars with a 5-Star Adult Safety Rating.

At the time of Mahindra XUV700 launch back in 2021, it became the first SUV in the segment to be offered with level 2 ADAS tech. It has been nearly two years since it revolutionized the category and it is only now that its competitors have started introducing this particular tech on their relevant models.
The 6/7-seater SUV gets ADAS features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, and Smart Pilot Assist (automatic only).
Mahindra cars are some of the most packed offerings in India when it comes to standard safety equipment. All models come equipped with 2 airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, and ABS with EBD as standard while new models like the Scorpio-N, XUV400 and the XUV700 also get up to 7 airbags, ESP, ISOFIX mounts, cornering ABS, tire pressure monitoring system, ADAS-tech on the XUV700 and more.
