Next-gen Honda City launch by 2028 First Honda BEV to arrive by the end of this fiscal year New sub-4m and 7-seater SUVs will arrive by 2028
For years, Honda took a conservative path in India with heavy dependency on the Elevate SUV and the iconic City sedan to drive sales. The Japanese automaker has finally started taking the Indian car market seriously, and has announced major product plans. The company is executing an aggressive product rollout - anchored by an advanced modular architecture and a dedicated born-EV platform.
Honda Cars India has announced to launch 10 new models, out of which 7 will be SUVs, by the end of this decade. The company has already launched the ZR-V hybrid as a fully-imported CBU model. Adding to it, the company is also considering some of its global models, including Prelude, Civic and CR-V for the Indian market.
By 2028, Honda plans to introduce 4 important products to reshape its presence across urban, family, and electric segments:
The sixth generation City sedan will be engineered on Honda's lightweight PF2 platform. The new sedan will adopt a sleeker, coupe-like fastback silhouette with design inspiration on the 0 Series sedan concept. The sedan will come with a modern cabin with high-end features and more space in the rear space and bigger boot. It will be powered by a 1.5L NA petrol engine with manual and automatic gearboxes. The sedan will also feature an upgraded dual-motor e:HEV strong hybrid powertrain targeting over 28kmpl.

Honda will introduce its first pure electric SUV based on the 0 Alpha concept before the end of this financial year. It will be built on the brand's "Thin, Light, and Wise" architecture. Featuring futuristic design with an illuminated LED front bar, a 100mm longer wheelbase than the Elevate, and ultra-fast DC charging capabilities, the Honda 0 Alpha brings cutting-edge EV technology aimed directly at Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Sierra EV, Mahindra BE 6 and others in the premium electric SUV segment.
Honda will re-enter the sub-4 metre SUV segment with an all-new model by 2028. It will directly rival the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue and the upcoming Renault Bridger and Mahindra Vision S. It will be based on the modified PF2 architecture, and will be offered with a new 1.2L i-VTEC petrol engine. Moreover, the SUV is also expected to receive a strong hybrid powertrain.
Honda will utilise the modular PF2 architecture to develop an all-new 7-seater SUV to challenge the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari and Hyundai Alcazar. The new SUV is likely to be offered with 6-and 7-seat layout with the former getting captain chairs in the second row. The SUV will be offered with 1.5L NA petrol and the next-gen 1.5L e:HEV hybrid powertrain.
