New Honda SUVs and EVs in the Works for India

Honda is preparing several new SUVs for India. A new electric SUV could arrive by FY27. Hybrid technology will continue to remain important for Honda.

Honda is preparing a major comeback in India with several new SUVs, hybrid models and electric vehicles currently under development. The company is aiming to strengthen its presence in the fast-growing SUV segment after relying mainly on sedans like the City and Amaze for years.

New SUVs Planned

Honda recently introduced the ZR-V Hybrid for India, but the bigger focus will be on locally-developed SUVs. A new sub-4 metre SUV is reportedly under development to rival models like the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet.

The company is also believed to be working on another midsize SUV positioned above the Elevate.

Electric SUV Coming Soon

Honda is preparing a new electric SUV based on the Elevate platform for India. The EV is expected to launch around FY27 and could also support export operations from India. Road testing for Honda’s future EVs has already started globally.

Hybrids Still Important

Even with EVs in the pipeline, Honda continues to see strong hybrids as an important technology for Indian conditions. The company is expected to expand its hybrid portfolio in the coming years alongside electric vehicles.

Honda Looking to Grow Again

Honda’s Rajasthan plant currently has annual production capacity of around 1.8 lakh units, with room for further expansion if demand increases.

With multiple SUVs, hybrids and EVs under development, Honda is preparing one of its biggest product pushes for India in recent years.
