Citroen has given us a sneak peek of its upcoming SUV coupe. Previously named C3X, the vehicle has now been officially named Basalt by the brand. It is scheduled for debut on the 27th of March, 2024. During its unveiling, the French brand will only reveal the car's exterior design to the global audience, with further specifications to be disclosed subsequently.
New Citroen Basalt: Platform and Design Language
The New Citroen Basalt will be based on the CMP (Common Modular Platform) same as the C3, eC3, and C3 Aircross. It will sit above the C3 Aircross SUV in the manufacturer's product lineup.
Drawing cues from the design language of Citroen, Basalt's taillamp design bears a resemblance to that of the C3 hatchback in Europe. Certain components such as the platform and some body panels are expected to be borrowed from existing models within the brand.
However, the front fascia will receive a unique treatment to carve out its identity. It will sport high ground clearance and large alloy wheels similar to the C3 Aircross.
New Citroen Basalt: Interior Design
Even on the inside, the Citroen Basalt is likely to adopt the interior design language of the C3 Aircross while being equipped with an array of modern amenities. These will include electric folding mirrors, cruise control, push-button start, automatic climate control, and keyless entry.
New Citroen Basalt: Powertrain Options
Under the hood, the vehicle is expected to house the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine found in the C3 Aircross and C3 hatchback. It will be mated with either a manual gearbox or an automatic torque converter transmission. More details are yet to be revealed.
