Hyundai Motor India has started its Delhi Auto Expo 2023 journey with the launch of its first ground up EV, the IONIQ 5. Showcased a few days ago in Mumbai, the car has received interest from customers and is now available for sale at a starting price of Rs 44.95 lakh (ex-showroom). The special introductory price is limited to the first 500 customers. Built on the E-GMP platform, the four-wheeler is developed as an EV only offering and is on sale in the international market from 2021.
Talking about the exterior design, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 takes a new design direction that is an evolution of the recently seen ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language. Drawing inspiration from the Pony, Hyundai’s first-ever car, the IONIQ 5 highlights the company’s 45-year journey creating a common thread from past to present and the future. In terms of size, the new Hyundai IONIQ 5 measures 4.6-metres in length, 1.89 metres in width and 1.6-metres in height. The car also boasts of a 3.0-metre-long wheelbase that helps liberate more room on the inside.
From the start the IONIQ 5’s exterior design features a lot of retro design cues. The front and rear of the vehicle is dominated by the rectangular Parametric Pixels LED lights while the side profile showcases a modern and sporty silhouette with a short hood and a steeply raked C-Pillar. The large 20-inch alloy-wheels along with the auto-flush door handles add dynamism to the overall design.

Moving to the inside, the car features an airy cabin finished in eco-friendly materials. The centrepiece of the knob-free interior design is the new magnetic dashboard that features twin 12.25-inch touchscreens. Other unique equipment on the interior includes the column type shift-by-wire gear lever, integrated drivers display, individually adjustable 60:40 split rear seats, a panoramic sunroof and more. The use of a dedicated EV platform has helped Hyundai carve out a 57-litre front boot on the IONIQ5.
In addition, the car also features standard equipment like 6 airbags, Virtual Engine Sound System and more. The best package of safety and comfort, the IONIQ 5 is a full 5-Star Euro NCAP rated product.
Similar to its sibling the KIA EV6, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 is offered with a single 72.6-kWh battery. The total power output of the system is rated at 215 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. The IONIQ 5 also comes equipped with 350kW rapid DC charging technology that recharges the car from 10 to 80 percent in under 20 minutes. The total driving range of the IONIQ 5 is capped at 631 kilometres on a single charge.
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 is offered with 3 exterior colour options that includes Gravity Gold Matte, Optic White and Midnight Black Pearl, while the upholstery is finished in new Dark Pebble Grey colour.
