Is the Jaecoo J5 EV India-bound as JSW Motors’ SUV? Spied on Indian roads, it promises a premium electric experience. Could launch in 2027, priced between Rs 15-20 lakh (ex-showroom).
JSW Group is making waves with its plans to enter the Indian auto market under the new banner JSW Motors. While the company is expected to start with cars licensed from China’s Chery Auto, speculation is growing about a rebadged Jaecoo J5 EV making its way to India as the second model. The SUV has already been spotted testing on Indian roads, raising questions about its official launch timeline.
The Jaecoo J5 EV is a mid-size electric SUV with styling cues reminiscent of the Range Rover Sport and Evoque. It has a boxy yet sleek profile, a sloping roofline, and sharp tail lamps, giving it both a modern and sporty look.
Other notable exterior features include 18-inch aero wheels, a blanked-off grille, and a rising beltline, which clearly signal its EV nature. The SUV’s clean design is rugged enough for adventurous buyers while still looking premium for city roads.

Inside, the SUV goes for a minimalist digital layout. The horizontal dashboard houses compact AC vents and an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, while the 13.2-inch portrait touchscreen flows into the center console in a waterfall-style design.
International versions of the Jaecoo J5 EV offer ventilated power seats, a panoramic glass roof, dual-zone climate control, and wireless smartphone charging. Safety features are robust, including six airbags, 360-degree cameras, and advanced driver assistance systems, making it a tech-packed electric SUV.
The SUV is powered by a single front-mounted electric motor, producing 208 hp and 288 Nm of torque, backed by a 58.9 kWh battery pack. It can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in 7.7 seconds, reach a top speed of 175 km/h, and travel up to 402 km on a single charge (WLTP).
Speaking at Davos 2026, Parth Jindal, Director at JSW Energy, hinted that JSW Motors would launch its second car in January 2027, with a likely ex-showroom price of Rs 15-20 lakh. While he didn’t explicitly confirm the Jaecoo J5 EV, many expect this to be the SUV in question, potentially marking JSW’s entry into the premium electric SUV segment.
