Kia Sorento Hybrid Launch Before Diwali, 2026

New Sorento Bookings Open Launch expected during festive season, before Diwali To get a hybrid powertrain.

Kia India has officially teased its first hybrid SUV, the all-new Sorento ahead of its launch in coming weeks. Kia dealers have already started accepting pre-bookings for the Kia Sorento, and its launch is expected around September-October 2026. The Korean brand is targeting the festive season, that’s Diwali for the launch of the new flagship hybrid SUV.

The new Kia Sorento hybrid will be locally assembled in India, and the 3-row SUV is expected to be priced somewhere around Rs 28 lakh to Rs 38 lakh, ex-showroom. It is expected to be powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol strong hybrid powertrain, paired with an electric motor to deliver smooth city driving and higher efficiency. It is reported that the new SUV could get the locally developed 1.5L strong hybrid engine, which will also power the next-gen Creta and Kia Seltos.

Previous media reports suggest that the new Kia Sorento could also get a 2.2-litre CRDi turbo diesel engine paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The higher-spec variants of the new Sorento is expected to get an AWD system with multiple terrain modes - Snow, Mud and Sand - alongside the standard front-wheel-drive layout.

The new Kia Sorento hybrid will be offered in both 6-seater and 7-seater configuration. The 6-seater version features second-row captain seats with individual armrests. The global-spec Sorento measures 4815mm in length, 1900mm in width and 1700mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2815mm. Compared to the XUV 7XO, the Sorento is 120mm longer, 10mm wider and 55mm shorter. In fact, its wheelbase is around 65mm longer than the XUV 7XO.

The teaser reveals a tall, upright silhouette with a pronounced shoulder line and a wide, bold stance, reflecting a purposeful family SUV built for both road presence and versatility. At the front, the new Sorento gets a stroking illuminated lighting graphics cuts a bold, angular path across the hood, paired with a secondary lighting cluster lower on the bumper, suggesting a distinctive two-tier lighting signature for the India-spec model.

Competition

The new Sorento will be a 7-seater SUV, which will be positioned between the Seltos and Carnival MPV in the country. will directly rival the top-end variants of the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari. It will also challenge the lower-spec variants of the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron and Toyota Fortuner.
