Kia Sorento hybrid and diesel variants expected by Diwali. The 7-seater SUV is likely to cost around Rs 40 lakh – Rs 50 lakh.
The Kia Syros EV and Kia Sorento premium three-row SUV are set to be next major product launches from the South Korean automaker in India. While the electric SUV is scheduled to hit showrooms in the last week of July, the Sorento hybrid SUV is likely to go on sale during the 2026 Diwali festive season. Select Kia dealers have already started accepting bookings for the Sorento ahead of its official arrival.
According to leaked information, the Kia Sorento will be available with two powertrain options – a 1.6L strong hybrid and a 2.2L diesel engine. Similar to the global-spec version, the hybrid powertrain will combine a 1.6L Smartstream T-GDi turbo petrol engine, a 59bhp permanent magnet synchronous motor and a 1.49kWh lithium-ion battery pack. This setup delivers a combined power of 227bhp and 350Nm of torque.
The 1.6L hybrid powertrain offers strong low-end torque, reduced turbo lag and lower carbon emissions. Globally, it’s paired exclusively with a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. The SUV is available with both FWD (front-wheel drive) and AWD (all-wheel drive) options, though it remains unclear which version Kia will introduce in India.
The Sorento diesel version is expected to feature a 2.2L CRDi (Common Rail Direct Injection) turbo engine, delivering up to 202bhp and 450Nm of torque. In several global markets, this engine is offered with Hyundai-Kia’s 8-speed wet dual-clutch transmission.
Dimensionally, the new Kia hybrid SUV will measure 4,815mm in length, 1,900mm in width and 1,700mm in height, while siting on a 2,815mm long wheelbase. Buyers will be able to choose between 6 and 7-seats configurations, with the former featuring second-row captain chairs and the latter equipped with a bench-type seat.
While official details will be revealed close to launch, the Kia Sorento hybrid SUV is expected to be packed with several advanced features including dual 12.3-inch displays, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, powered driver seats, ambient lighting, Level 2 ADAS suite and many more.
Kia will bring the Sorento to India via CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route, and assemble it locally. With Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron R-Line and Jeep Meridian in its sight, the new Kia premium 7-seater SUV is expected to be priced between Rs 40 lakh – Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom).
