Kia Sorento is Heading to India with a Launch Expected by Diwali

Kia Sorento officially confirmed for India Launch expected by September-October 2026

After introducing the Syros EV, Kia has announced its flagship three-row hybrid SUV - the Sorento for the Indian market. Likely to be launched by September-October 2026, the new Kia Sorento 7-seater hybrid SUV will rival the higher-spec variants of the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari. It will also come as an affordable alternative to the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, MG Majestor, VW Tayron and others.

Unofficial bookings for the new-gen Kia Sorento have already been commenced across select Kia dealerships. It is reported that the SUV will be offered with diesel and hybrid powertrains. In the global markets, the SUV is available with a 1.6-litre turbocharged GDi petrol hybrid engine and 2.2L CRDi turbo diesel engine. Transmission choices include, a 6-speed automatic and an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic. Both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive setups are on offer.

Previous media reports claim that the India-spec model could get the new 1.5-litre strong hybrid engine, which will also power the next-gen Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The diesel version is likely to get a 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine, which was earlier offered with the Hyundai Tucson. It is reported that the SUV’s hybrid version will offer powerful performance and excellent fuel efficiency.

In terms of size, the global-spec Kia Sorento is 4815mm long, 1900mm wide and 1700mm tall. The SUV rides on a 2815mm long wheelbase. Compared to the XUV 7XO, the Sorento is 120mm longer, 10mm wider and 55mm shorter. In fact, its wheelbase is around 65mm longer than the XUV 7XO.

The upcoming Sorento will be available with both 6 and 7-seat configurations with former having captain seats in the second-row. Its cabin is likely to be similar to the global-spec model, featuring dual 12.3-inch panoramic curved displays for infotainment unit and digital instrument cluster. In terms of features, the SUV will have wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, built-in navigation, wireless phone charger, Bose sound system, dual-zone climate control, HUD, terrain modes and more.

For safety and security, the 2026 Kia Sorento will have multiple airbags, traction control system, vehicle stability management, ESC, hill start assist, hill descent control, a 360-degree surround view camera, and LEVEL 2 ADAS tech.
