Kia Sorento local assembly begins Expected to be priced between 30 lakh and 40 lakh
Kia India is preparing to enter the competitive three-row SUV segment with the launch of the Kia Sorento on September 4. 2026. Rather than positioning the SUV as an expensive niche import, Kia is expected to price the new three-row flagship SUV competitively. It is expected to be priced somewhere around Rs 30 lakh - 40 lakh, ex-showroom.
Key Reasons Behind Aggressive Pricing
Local Assembly via CKD Route: Kia has commenced assembly of the Sorento at its production facility in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. With Completely Knocked Down (CKD) kits and high levels of initial localisation, Kia will be able to bypass hefty 70% - 100% CBU import tariffs.
Shared Component: the diesel version of the Sorento will be powered by the same 2.0-litre engine that also powers the Kia Carnival, which allows Kia to leverage existing component supply chains and reduce manufacturing costs.
Cheaper than German Rivals & Fortuner: Kia is targeting an entry price under Rs 35 lakh, the Kia Sorento undercuts the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tayron.
Mass-Market Strong Hybrid AWD: the new Sorento will be Kia’s first strong hybrid vehicle in the Indian market. It will be packed with a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol strong hybrid engine with All-Wheel Drive (AWD). The Sorento will also be the first strong hybrid model in its segment.
