We informed you earlier that Mahindra is now the country’s second largest car manufacturer. The company manages to beat Tata Motors and Hyundai to grab the second position. On the flip side, Tata Motors grabs the third position in the list of top car makers in 2025. The Korean automaker lost its second position, and is now slipped to fourth position. In fact, the December 2025 sales reflect the same trend. Mahindra sits at 2nd, followed by Tata Motors and Hyundai on 3rd and 4th positions, respectively.
Mahindra has sold 50,946 SUVs in the domestic market in December 2025 as against 41,424 units in the same month last year. The company has reported a Year-On-Year sales growth of 23 per cent. In the FY2026, the company sold 476,476 utility vehicles and posted a healthy YoY sales growth of 18 percent. In the same period FY2025, Mahindra sold 402,360 units.

According to Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO, Automotive Division, M&M Ltd., "Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year! The calendar year 2025 ended on a positive note, with Mahindra clocking its highest-ever volumes in both SUVs and LCVs (<3.5T) segments, a significant milestone for the company.
In December, we achieved SUV sales of 50,946 units, a growth of 23% and LCV <3.5T sales of 24,786 units, a growth of 34%. The total vehicle sales stand at 86,090 units, a 25% year-on-year growth."

Tata Motors registered a total sales of 50,519 units in December 2025 as against 44,289 units in the same month last year, reporting a YoY sales growth of 14.1 percent. In the domestic market, the company sold 50,046 units and posted a YoY sales growth of 13.1 percent.

Mr. Shailesh Chandra, MD and CEO, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. said, “CY25 saw steady progress for the PV industry powered by a growing preference for SUVs and accelerating adoption of cleaner, emission-friendly powertrains. For Tata Motors, it was the fifth consecutive year of record-breaking annual sales, with 587,218 units sold, including the highest-ever EV volumes of 81,125 units in a calendar year.
Hyundai has reported a monthly domestic sales of 42,416 units in December 2025. The company recorded total monthly sales, including Domestic and Export, of 58,702 units in December 2025. Hyundai has reported a YoY sales growth of 6.6 percent. The company has also exported 16,286 units last month.
