The long-awaited Mahindra Thar Roxx 5-door lifestyle SUV will finally make its global debut on August 15, 2024. The new model will come as a more practical offering when compared to the 3-door Thar. Mahindra has already released multiple teasers, which reveals a plush and feature-loaded interior.
Going by the tradition, Mahindra will aim to price the Thar Roxx very aggressively to gain initial traction. The new 5-door Thar will be positioned between the 3-door Thar and the Scorpio N, in terms of pricing. The 3-door lifestyle SUV is available in the price bracket of Rs 11.35 lakh to Rs 17.60 lakh, while the Scorpio N is priced between Rs 13.85 lakh and Rs 24.54 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Mahindra Thar Roxx price India is expected to start around Rs 13 lakh, which is likely to go up to Rs 20 lakh for the top-end variant. The lifestyle SUV will lead to cannibalization with both 3-door Thar and the Scorpio N. In fact, the humongous traction for the 5-door Thar could result into huge bookings. Moreover, Mahindra believes that the Thar Roxx could impact the sales of both 3-door Thar and the Scorpio N.
The Thar Roxx will be produced at Mahindra's Chakan based plant. In fact, it will be manufactured on the same production line that produces the Thar 3-door. The company aims to produce around 5,000 to 6,000 units of the lifestyle SUV per month, which is roughly around 70,000 annually.
While the official bookings for the Thar Roxx are likely to commence on August 15, Mahindra dealers have already started accepting pre-orders. Interested customers can book the new Thar Roxx at the nearest Mahindra dealership by paying a token amount of Rs 21,000. Deliveries will be done on the first come first serve basis.
The Thar Roxx 5-door will be offered with 3 engine options including an entry-level 1.5L, 4-cylinder turbo diesel unit that powers the XUV 3XO and Thar 3-door. This engine produces 117bhp and 300Nm of torque, and is most likely to be offered with a manual gearbox. It is expected to be offered as a rear-wheel-drive lifestyle SUV.
The Thar Roxx will be based on a more sophisticated ladder frame chassis that underpins the Scorpio N. Not just the architecture, the lifestyle SUV shares the engine options with the Scorpio. Powertrain options are likely to include a 175PS, 2.2L diesel and 203PS, 2.0L turbo petrol. These models will be offered with a 4WD layout. Transmission choices are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
