Mahindra Vision SXT design patented in India. SUV is likely to be offered with ICE and EV options. Production version could make its debut later this year.
Mahindra has moved a step closer to bringing the Vision SXT into production. The rugged SUV concept, first showcased during the unveiling of the NU_IQ platform on August 15, 2025, has now been patented in India. The patent filing suggests the company is progressing with the model, which is likely to be offered with both internal combustion (ICE) and electric (EV) powertrains.
While Mahindra has not confirmed a launch timeline, the production-ready version is expected to be showcased later this year.
The patent images show that the Vision SXT has retained most of the bold styling seen on the concept.
It features a boxy silhouette with a wide grille, split headlamps and Y-shaped LED daytime running lights. Other highlights include a silver front skid plate, chunky wheel arch cladding, side steps and large off-road tyres that give the SUV a strong road presence.
Another distinctive element is the tubular bar running along the side, which forms part of the external roll cage design. Together, these styling cues give the Vision SXT a tough, adventure-ready look.
When Mahindra first unveiled the concept, many enthusiasts compared its upright proportions and squared-off design with the Land Rover Defender.

The Vision SXT is based on Mahindra's NU_IQ platform, a new modular architecture that can support multiple body styles and powertrains.
One of its biggest advantages is flexibility. The platform has been developed to accommodate both ICE and electric vehicles, while also supporting sub-compact, compact and full-size models. This allows Mahindra to build a wider range of products using the same basic architecture.
Mahindra is expected to offer the Vision SXT with both conventional and electric powertrain options.
Depending on the variant, the SUV could be available with two-wheel-drive (2WD) and four-wheel-drive (4WD) configurations. The concept featured twin spare wheels mounted at the rear, but the production version is likely to adopt a single rear-mounted spare wheel for practicality.
More details about the engines, battery pack and performance are expected closer to its official reveal.
Although Mahindra has remained tight-lipped about its launch plans, reports suggest the production-spec Vision SXT could be unveiled during the next quarter of this calendar year.
