Indian automobile giant Mahindra & Mahindra is gearing up for the launch of its first fully electric SUV, the XUV400 EV early next year. While deliveries will start towards the end of January 2023, test drives for customers will start from next month.
The XUV400 EV is based on the XUV300 but is a bit longer and features different styling. The front grille has been closed off, while the overall car gets bronze and black highlights to showcase its an electric. The car also gets Mahindra’s new Twin Peaks logo in bronze, projector headlights with DRLs, contoured bumper, contrast body cladding, roof rails, and multi-spoke alloy wheels.
Moving to the inside, the XUV400 EV gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support and over 60 connected car features. Other features include auto headlights and wipers, multiple drive modes, push button stop/start, a 4-speaker audio system and more.
The XUV400 EV will use a 39.5 kWh Li-ion battery pack that powers a single front-axle mounted electric motor. It makes 148 bhp and 310 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively.
Mahindra claims a range of 456 kms on a single charge for the XUV400 EV, the highest in the segment. The battery can use a DC fast charger to charge up to 80% in just 50 minutes.
Though prices haven’t been revealed yet, expect the XUV400 EV to be priced between Rs 17 lakh - Rs 20 lakh, ex-showroom. There will be three variants on offer - Base, EP and EL.
Upon launch, the XUV400 EV will compete against the likes of the Tata Nexon EV Max, Hyundai Kona Electric, and the MG ZS EV.
