MG Reveals New ADAPT Platform; EV and PHEV Coming Soon

MG has introduced its new ADAPT platform in India. The platform supports EV, hybrid, PHEV and REEV powertrains. One new EV and one plug-in hybrid model are planned by FY2026-27.

JSW MG Motor India has taken another step towards expanding its new energy vehicle lineup by unveiling the MG ADAPT (Advance Drive Architecture Platform Technology). The company says it is India's first platform that can support multiple new energy powertrains, including EVs, hybrids, plug-in hybrids and range extender electric vehicles.

MG has also confirmed that the first two models based on this platform—an electric vehicle (EV) and a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV)—will be launched in India by FY2026-27.

One Platform for Multiple Powertrains

Unlike conventional vehicle platforms that are built for a single type of powertrain, the new ADAPT platform has been designed to support four different technologies. This means MG can build electric vehicles, hybrid models, plug-in hybrids and range extender EVs using the same architecture. The company says this approach will help it develop new models faster while giving customers more choices. MG also says the platform has been developed to improve driving range, charging speed, safety, performance and overall driving comfort.

New Hybrid Technology

The ADAPT platform brings together several new technologies designed specifically for hybrid vehicles. It combines a dedicated hybrid petrol engine, a dedicated battery system, India's first 10-in-1 Intelligent Electric Drive Unit and an Electromagnetic Dedicated Hybrid Transmission. According to MG, these components work together to improve fuel efficiency while delivering smooth performance and a more refined driving experience.

Intelligent Drive Modes

The new platform also comes with an Intelligent Energy Management System that automatically selects the best drive mode depending on road and driving conditions.

It offers four operating modes. Pure Electric Drive is meant for city driving using only electric power. Series Hybrid Drive uses the petrol engine to generate electricity while the electric motor drives the wheels. Parallel Hybrid Drive allows both the engine and motor to work together for better performance. Engine Direct Drive is designed to improve efficiency during highway cruising.

The system switches between these modes automatically without any input from the driver.

REEV Technology Also Included

The ADAPT platform also supports Range Extender Electric Vehicle (REEV) technology. In this setup, the wheels are always driven by the electric motor, while the petrol engine is used only to recharge the battery when required. This helps increase the driving range while still delivering an electric driving experience.

More New Energy Vehicles on the Way

With the ADAPT platform now ready, MG is preparing to expand its new energy vehicle lineup in India. The company has already confirmed that one EV and one plug-in hybrid model based on the platform will arrive by FY2026-27. Going forward, the new architecture is expected to play a key role in MG's future product plans as it continues to introduce more electrified vehicles for the Indian market.
