MG Motor is preparing to strengthen its electric vehicle lineup in India with the upcoming MG Starlight EV. Expected to launch later this year, the SUV will target buyers looking for a spacious, feature-loaded electric SUV with long driving range and premium comfort.

The Starlight EV is based on the Wuling Starlight SUV sold in global markets and is expected to rival models like the Mahindra XEV 9S in India.

Bold SUV Design With Premium Styling

The MG Starlight EV is expected to feature a bold and modern SUV design. Key highlights include a closed-off front grille, sharp LED lighting elements, an upright front fascia, and a muscular bumper design.

The SUV also gets squared wheel arches, roof rails, flat body panels, and a sleek roofline that gives it a strong road presence. At the rear, the SUV is likely to feature wraparound tail lamps and a sporty roof-mounted spoiler.

Dimensionally, the SUV measures 4,745 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,770 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,810 mm, promising a spacious cabin experience.

Panoramic Sunroof and Big Touchscreen

One of the biggest highlights of the MG Starlight EV is expected to be its feature-rich cabin. The SUV is likely to come equipped with a 12.8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, connected car technology, OTA updates, and 4G connectivity.

MG is also expected to offer a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging pad, leatherette upholstery, and a column-mounted gear selector. Another interesting feature could be a 180-degree recliner mode, designed to improve passenger comfort during long journeys.

Long Range and Electric Performance

Globally, the MG Starlight EV is offered with 60 kWh and 69.2 kWh battery pack options. The SUV delivers a claimed range of 500 km to 540 km on the CLTC cycle, making it suitable for both city driving and highway trips.

Power comes from a single electric motor producing 136 PS and 200 Nm of torque. The SUV uses a front-wheel-drive setup across all variants.

MG may also introduce a plug-in hybrid version later, but the electric model is expected to be the main focus for India.
