Hyundai's new SUV has been spotted with dual screens and a 360-degree camera. It could get both petrol and CNG powertrain options. The new SUV will sit between the Venue and Creta and rival the Maruti Victoris.
Hyundai is working on a new SUV for India that will sit between the Venue and Creta. The upcoming model, internally known as BC4i, has been spotted testing in India and is expected to compete with the Maruti Suzuki Victoris and other SUVs in this segment.
The new SUV is expected to measure around 4.2 to 4.4 metres in length, making it larger than the Venue but smaller than the Creta. Recent spy shots have also revealed some details of its cabin and features.
The latest test vehicle gives us a look at the dashboard layout. The new Hyundai SUV will get two integrated screens, one for the digital instrument cluster and another for the infotainment system. The steering wheel appears to be similar to the one seen on the new Venue. It also gets Hyundai's new four-dot logo in the centre.
The cabin has a dual-tone black and white theme. The dashboard follows a simple layout with a flat top section. Some chrome details could be added to the production version. The heavy camouflage on the test vehicle means that many smaller details are still not visible.

The test vehicle was also spotted with a 360-degree camera. This feature is likely to be offered on higher variants. A sunroof can also be seen on the test mule. Other expected features include roof rails, a shark-fin antenna and newly designed ORVMs. The SUV will use conventional pull-type door handles, while the side profile will feature large wheel arch cladding and sporty alloy wheels.
The upcoming SUV will follow Hyundai's latest design direction. It gets an upright front end with H-shaped LED DRLs positioned at the top. The headlamps are expected to sit lower, with trapezoidal housings around them. The front will also feature a slatted grille.
The side profile gets angular window lines and strong body cladding. At the rear, the SUV will have a raked windscreen, a chunky bumper and parking sensors. The overall design is expected to follow Hyundai's Art of Steel design theme.
One of the biggest talking points around the new Hyundai SUV is its possible CNG powertrain. Hyundai is expected to offer petrol and CNG versions of the SUV. If launched, the CNG model could become Hyundai's first CNG-powered vehicle above four metres in length.
The company could use a dual-cylinder CNG setup to reduce the loss of boot space. This would also help Hyundai take on the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, which already offers a CNG option.
The petrol version could use Hyundai's 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine. In the Creta, this engine produces 115 PS and 143.8 Nm. It is currently available with a six-speed manual and an IVT automatic gearbox. These options could also be used in the new SUV, although final specifications have not been confirmed.
The new model is expected to be positioned below the Creta, giving Hyundai another option for buyers looking for a larger SUV without moving into the Creta price range.
The new SUV will strengthen Hyundai's presence in the midsize SUV space. The Maruti Suzuki Victoris will be one of its main rivals, while its positioning between the Venue and Creta could help Hyundai attract a wider range of buyers.
Hyundai has not yet announced the official name or launch date of the SUV. More details are expected as testing continues and the company gets closer to its India launch.
