Nissan Tekton Won’t Get A Hybrid Powertrain: More Details

Nissan Tekton debut on July 9, 2026 It will come with two turbo petrol engines 1.8L strong hybrid engine will be exclusive to Renault Duster

Nissan India will reveal the much-anticipated Tekton midsize SUV in the country on July 9, 2026. The SUV will also receive a 7-seater derivative in 2027. It was speculated that the Nissan Tekton will come with petrol as well as hybrid powertrains; however, a new media report claims that the SUV won’t receive a strong hybrid engine.

For people not in the know, the Nissan Tekton is based on the same architecture that underpins the Duster. The SUV shares the body panels and features with the Renault Duster; however, it will carry the Nissan’s identity. In fact, Nissan has officially announced that the design of the new SUV is inspired by the Nissan Patrol.

Previous reports claimed that the Nissan Tekton will borrow the 1.8L Strong hybrid powertrain from the Renault Duster. However, IndiaCarNews claims that Renault intends to keep the strong hybrid engine exclusive to its own SUV lineup and has no plans to share it with Nissan India. This strategy will give Renault a competitive advantage over the Nissan Tekton. For people not in the know, the Renault Duster Hybrid is scheduled to be launched during festive season, before Diwali.

The Renault Duster will get a 109bhp, 1.8L, 4-cylinder petrol engine paired with a 49bhp electric motor, a 1.4kWh battery pack and a 20bhp hybrid starter generator (HSG). The combined power and torque output stands at 160bhp and 172Nm, respectively.

Similar to the Renault Duster, the upcoming Nissan Tekton is expected to be offered with a 100bhp, 1.0L turbo petrol and a 163bhp, 1.3L turbo petrol engine. Transmissions on offer will include a 6-speed manual (standard) and a 6-speed DCT (available only on the 1.3L petrol variants).
