Skoda Auto is gearing up to launch its new sub-compact SUV - the Kylaq in India. It is expected to arrive in the market in early 2025. The production of the Kylaq will start by next month. In the initial stage, the compact SUV will be sold in the domestic market; later it can be exported to overseas markets. The company plans to produce around 50,000 to 70,000 units annually, which means 4100 to 5800 units will be manufactured monthly.
Here is what we know so far about the new Skoda Kylaq sub-compact SUV:
Skoda Kylaq SUV will be built on the MQB A0-IN platform. This is the same platform used for the Kushaq and Slavia. In terms of design, the Kylaq will carry the brand's SUV design language. It will feature a split headlamp setup, an all-new front grille, a sculpted bonnet, a shark fin antenna, LED DRLs, roof rails, fresh alloy wheels, and an angular design for the taillamp. Feature-wise, it is expected to receive a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment, a fully digital driver's display, a wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats, and six airbags.
The upcoming Skoda car will be powered by a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. Mated with a 6-speed manual and a 6-peed automatic transmission, this 3-cylinder unit can produce 114 bhp of power and 178 Nm of torque.
Skoda Kylaq is expected to be priced at around Rs 8.50 lakh (ex-showroom). As for the rivals, it will give tough competition to Mahindra XUV 3XO, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, and Renault Kiger.
