Tata Motors Surpasses 70k Sales Milestone, Outpaces Mahindra by Big Margin

Tata sold 70,222 vehicles in January 2026 Mahindra sold 63510 vehicles, while Hyundai sales hit 59K+ in January 2026

Tata Motors has secured 2nd position for the fourth consecutive month in sales in India. In January 2026, the company has managed to sell over 70,000 vehicles to grab the second position in the list of top car makers in the country. In fact, the gap between the Tata and Mahindra has increased to 8000 units in last month sales. Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. has reported a total sales, including domestic & exports, of 71,066 vehicles in January 2026 as against 48,316 units in the same month last year, registering a YoY sales growth of 72.7 percent. 


In the domestic market, the company has registered a total sales of 70,222 vehicles in January 2026 as against 48,076 vehicles in the same month last year. The company has recorded a YoY sales growth of 46.1 percent. In fact, the company has also consolidated its position in the EV segment by selling 9,052 EVs in January 2026 as against 5,240 units in the same month last year, registering a staggering YoY sales growth of 72.7 percent. 


Talking about Mahindra, the homegrown UV maker has also recorded great sales numbers in January 2026. The company sold a total of 63,510 SUVs in the domestic market last month, reporting a YoY sales growth of 25 per cent. Mahindra’s latest SUVs, the XUV 7XO and XEV 9S have been receiving an overwhelming response from car buyers. In fact, the company has recorded 93,689 bookings for these two SUVs, offering a booking value of Rs 20,500 crore in just 4 hours. 


Hyundai has also recorded its strongest-ever domestic month sales in January 2026. The company sold 59,107 vehicles in the domestic market and its combined total sales for the month stood at 73,137 units. In the domestic market, the Korean brand reported a YoY sales growth of 9.5 percent, and it sold 54,003 units in January 2025.
