Top 4 Tata SUV Launches in 2026-27

Tata Motors to launch Safari EV and Avinya in 2026 and 2027, respectively Sierra ICE to receive an AWD setup Next-gen Nexon in the works, launch in 2027

Tata Motors is expanding its lineup across internal combustion (ICE), pure electric (EV), and luxury segments. From resurrecting retro legends to launching ultra-futuristic EV architectures, the homegrown brand has an ambitious pipeline lined up for 2026 and 2027.

Here is a quick look into the top 4 upcoming Tata SUV launches set to make waves over the next two years.

Tata Safari EV

Safari EV India Launch 2026

Seeing the positive response for the Harrier EV, Tata Motors is readying an EV derivative of the Safari SUV. The Tata Safari EV will be based on Tata’s GEN-2 acti.ev architecture that also underpins the Harrier EV. Both 6 and 7-seater versions are likely to be on offer.

The Safari EV is expected to be offered with 65kWh and 75kWh battery packs. The company is targeting a real world range of over 450km on a single charge. Similar to the Harrier EV, the Tata Safari EV 75kWh model will get a dual-motor All-Wheel Drive (AWD) setup. This model is expected to offer 0-100kmph acceleration in around 8 seconds, along with multiple electronic terrain modes for light off-roading.

Tata Avinya X

Tata Motors will launch the first electric model under the AVINYA nameplate in India in 2027. The first model will be a pure electric SUV based on the AVINYA X concept that debuted at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. In fact, testing of the SUV has already been started. It is expected that the Avinya range of models will be built on the Freelancer EV platform produced by Chery-JLR in China.

The electric SUV is expected to feature up to 100 kWh batteries with rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. It is claimed to offer a range of up to 760 km on the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). The electric SUV will also get LEVEL 2 ADAS, over-the-air updates and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capabilities.

Tata Sierra AWD

Sierra AWD Launch

Tata Motors is preparing to launch the AWD version of the ICE-powered Sierra. Adding to it, the SUV is also likely to get a CNG powertrain in near future. It will be the first ICE-powered model from the homegrown automaker to receive an all-wheel-drive setup. The new Sierra ICE is based on Tata’s brand new All-Terrain Ready Omni-Energy and Geometry Scalable Architecture (ARGOS) platform. Unlike older architectures that restricted rear-axle power delivery, the ARGOS is designed and engineered from ground up to support both FWD and AWD drivetrains along with multiple fuel options.

It is expected that both petrol and diesel powered versions of the Tata Sierra will receive the AWD setup. The SUV is likely to get a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine.

Next-gen Tata Nexon

Next-gen Tata Nexon Launch 2027

Tata Motors is preparing the next-generation Nexon compact SUV, which is expected to make its commercial debut by mid-2027. Codenamed “Project Garud,” the 2027 model will come with significant structural and design changes. The SUV is reportedly to be based on the existing X1 platform, which was first introduced in the late 1990s. Tata engineers will make massive structural changes to the Nexon’s platform.

Tata designer’s will also make significant changes to the design and interior of the new Nexon in line with new Tata models. The next-generation Tata Nexon is expected to be offered with petrol and CNG powertrains. It is early to comment whether the SUV will get a diesel engine or not.
