Tata Avinya ICE Model In the Works - Hybrid or Petrol?

Tata could launch ICE-powered SUV under AVINYA nameplate Avinya X production model arriving in 2027

At an investor summit, Tata Motors has announced its ICE product roadmap till FY2031. The company will aim to launch six new nameplates along with 20 refreshes and facelifts of existing range. Currently, Tata Motors is selling 9 ICE models and six electric vehicles. The Sierra EV and Safari EV are set to join the lineup in near future. The company has also announced to increase its EV portfolio to 10 models by FY2031.

The big update is that the Tata Avinya will also receive a non-BEV version. The report claims that an ICE-powered model from the Avinya family will join the brand’s ICE line-up. The AVINYA nameplate was originally planned for its future BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) line-up. It seems like Tata Motors is planning to diversify the powertrain options for its premium vehicles.

It is expected that the ICE-powered Tata Avinya could get a strong hybrid powertrain. The first model under the AVINYA nameplate will arrive in 2027. It is most likely to be the production version of the Tata Avinya X concept that debuted at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. A closer-to-production model is expected to make global debut at the 2027 Bharat Mobility Expo.

The homegrown automaker will initially launch the electrified version of the Avinya, but its ICE model could arrive sometime in 2028-29. The company is already in talks with multiple global brands, including Chery to gain hybrid powertrain.

The report also claims that Tata Motors is looking to enter new segments, and a new 7-seater MPV could join the line-up to rival the likes of the Maruti Ertiga, Kia Carens Clavis and Maruti XL6. This could revive the Tata Sumo nameplate

We reported earlier that Tata Motors is also developing a new sub-4 meter lifestyle SUV, which will be sold alongside the Nexon. The new SUV, internally codenamed Scarlet, will share styling with the Sierra and will take on the likes of the upcoming Renault Bridger and Mahindra Vision S.
