Tata Motors to launch Safari EV and Sierra EV with dual-motor AWD setup Tata Avinya X arriving in 2027, based on JLR's platform Sierra will be Tata's first ICE model to get AWD drivetrain in 2027
Tata Motors is currently selling the Harrier EV with an all-wheel-drive setup, which has reportedly received positive response from buyers. To tackle Mahindra’s dominance in AWD and 4x4 segment and cater to a new generation of buyers, Tata is launching a fleet of All-Wheel Drive (AWD) SUVs in the country. The homegrown automaker is adopting both dual-motor electric setups and traditional mechanical linkages to offer the AWD setup. Here is your definitive guide to the upcoming Tata AWD lineup -

Tata Motors is set to launch the Sierra EV in the country by mid-2026, around July-August. The electric SUV will be offered with two battery choices, including a 55kWh and a 65kWh. While the SUV will be a front-wheel-drive model, the higher-spec models with 65kWh battery will have dual-motor AWD setup. The electric SUV will take on the likes of the Mahindra BE 6, Hyundai Creta Electric and others, and all are offered as front-wheel-drive models. It will be built on Tata’s acti.ev platform that also underpins the Tata Curvv EV. It is expected to offer a realistic range of around 450-500km on a single charge.

Tata will launch the 3-row electric SUV, the Safari EV during festive season, around Diwali 2026. The SUV will share the platform, battery pack and electronic architecture with the Tata Harrier EV. The acti.ev+ architecture is designed to offer more versatile rear passengers seat. Both 6 and 7-seater versions are likely to be on offer. It is expected to be offered with 65kWh and 75kWh battery packs. The company is targeting a real world range of over 450km on a single charge. The Tata Safari EV 75kWh version will get a dual-motor AWD setup. It is expected to offer 0-100kmph acceleration in around 8 seconds, along with multiple electronic terrain modes.

Tata Motors has confirmed that the all-wheel-drive version of the ICE-powered Sierra will be launched in early 2027. It is based on the new ARGOS (All-terrain Ready, Omni-Energy and Geometry Scalable Architecture), which is a future ready platform. The Sierra will be the first Tata’s ICE AWD offering since the HEXA nameplate discontinued in 2020. It is expected that the AWD setup will be offered with the turbo petrol derivative, which gets a 160hp, 1.5L turbo engine paired with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

Tata Motors has officially announced that the first Avinya electric SUV will make its debut sometime in 2027. It is expected that the production-ready Avinya X will be revealed at the 2027 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. The company is planning to open a new premium dealership to retail products under the Avinya nameplate. The electric SUV will be based on JLR’s Electrified modular platform. It is expected to feature a battery pack of around 90-100kWh with dual-motor AWD setup.
