Tata Punch Flex-Fuel Model Launch Likely by March 2027

Tata to launch first model with a flex-fuel engine Punch flex-fuel could be introduced by year end or early 2027

Tata Motors is planning to launch its first flex-fuel model in the Indian market by the end of this financial year, by March 2027. This strategy is aligned with the government’s push towards higher ethanol blending in fuels. The Tata Punch could be the brand’s first model to get a flex-fuel engine.

At the Q4 results, Shailash Chandra, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said, “By the end of this year or early next year, we should be ready with out flex-fuel also, one product at least.”

He further added that Tata Motors is technologically ready to bring flex-fuel products in the market and is already compliant with E20-blended fuel standards. For people not in the know, Tata had showcased the Punch Flex Fuel that ranges from E20 up to E100 at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo.

The homegrown PV manufacturer is aiming for industry-beating growth in the ongoing fiscal year as it plans to ramp up capacities to meet demands from new launches.

Punch Flex Fuel

It is packed with the same 1.2-litre petrol engine as its standard counterpart that does 86 bhp and 115 Nm of torque. However, the ECU, fuel-injection system and exhaust after-treatment system are designed to detect and adjust to different ethanol blends.

The existing Punch is already available with multiple powertrain choices, including petrol, CNG and electric. A flex-fuel version would be the part of Tata Motors’s multi-powertrain strategy.
