Tata Motors dispatched 65,253 units in August 2026 EV contributed 16,523 units, close to 25 per cent of total Tata sales

Tata Motors reported a strong sales performance in the month of August 2026. The company dispatched 65,253 units in the domestic passenger vehicle market, registering a 59.15% year-on-year (YoY) increase compared to 41,001 units sold in the same month, 2026. Interestingly, Tata has also posted a 4.22% month-on-month (MoM) increase in dealer dispatch in August 2026 compared to July 2026 (62,611 units).


The Tata Punch and the Nexon together accounting for nearly 61% of total dispatches in August 2026.

Key Performance Highlights


Tata Punch is the best-seller: the Punch emerges as the best-selling vehicle for the homegrown automaker in August 2026. The company dispatched 21,320 units of the Punch in August 2026, registering a 99.18% YoY growth and contributed around 33% of Tata’s total monthly volumes.


Nexon remains in high demand: Tata Motors dispatched 18,431 units of the Nexon compact SUV in August 2026, which is 31.61% YoY increase.


New Tiago Maintains Steady Pace: The newly launched Tiago has been receiving positive response from car buyers. The company dispatched 8537 units of the Tiago in August 2026, that’s 1108 units higher than the dispatches in July 2026.


Sierra and Safari: Tata Motors sold 5,622 units of the Sierra and 1,953 units of the Safari in August 2026. The Sierra remains the brand’s fourth-largest seller, but it witnessed a decline in MoM dispatch of 11.14%. On the flip side, the Tata Safari registered a 34.41% MoM gain to 1,953 units.


Tata Altroz: the premium hatchback recorded a 23.04% YoY decline in dealer dispatch (3,047 units), making it the only model in Tata’s lineup to record a negative YoY sales.


Tata EV Vs ICE Sales (August 2026)


Tata Motors’s electric vehicle wholesales surged 93.78% YoY to 16,549 units, up from 8,540 units in August 2025. For the first time in Tata’s PV history, electric vehicles accounted for 25% of total monthly passenger vehicle sales.

Key Highlights: ICE Vs EV Dynamics


Punch and Nexon Drive Dual-Powertrain Surge: the Punch and Nexon were the primary drivers for both ICE and electric powertrains. The Punch EV and Nexon continued to lead retail deliveries, supported by higher consumer adoption following rise in fuel prices.


Tiago EV captures first-time buyers: the updated Tiago EV plays an important role as an entry-point into electric mobility. It contributed significantly to Tata’s 14.91% month-on-month gain in overall Tiago nameplate volumes.


Retail vs. Wholesale Dynamics: As per FADA, a total of 13,158 Tata electric vehicles were registered in August 2026. Factory dispatches hits 16,549 units as dealers built up inventory in anticipation of peak festive season demand.
