Tata Beats Mahindra in May 2026 Sales Race; EV Numbers Hit New High

Tata sold 59,790 passenger vehicles in May 2026. Mahindra's domestic SUV sales stood at 58,021 units. Tata EV sales surged 85% to a record 10,517 units.

Tata Motors has emerged ahead of Mahindra in the May 2026 passenger vehicle sales race, reporting stronger numbers and record-breaking EV sales.

 

The company sold 59,790 passenger vehicles across domestic and export markets during May 2026, registering a healthy 42% year-on-year growth. In comparison, Mahindra reported 58,021 domestic SUV sales and 59,573 SUVs including exports during the same period.

Tata Edges Past Mahindra in Passenger Vehicle Sales

 

Tata Motors sold 59,090 passenger vehicles in India and exported another 700 units, taking total passenger vehicle sales to 59,790 units.

 

Mahindra, on the other hand, reported 58,021 domestic SUV sales and 59,573 units including exports.

 

The numbers helped Tata strengthen its position in the passenger vehicle segment, backed by strong demand across its SUV and EV portfolio.

 

EV Sales Reach a New Record

 

The biggest highlight for Tata Motors was its electric vehicle business.

 

The company sold 10,517 EVs during May 2026, compared to 5,685 units during the same month last year. This translates to an impressive 85% year-on-year growth.

 

It is also the highest monthly EV sales figure ever recorded by Tata Motors.

 

Models such as the Punch EV, Nexon EV, Tiago EV and Curvv EV continue to drive the company's electric vehicle growth.

 

Strong Retail Demand Continues

 

Tata Motors stated that retail demand remained strong throughout the month.

 

The company revealed that VAHAN registrations increased by more than 50% year-on-year, indicating healthy customer deliveries and sustained demand.

 

This strong retail performance has further helped Tata reinforce its position as one of India's leading passenger vehicle manufacturers.
