The much-awaited Tata Sierra SUV will launch in India in the second half of 2025. It will be the next Tata model to come with petrol, diesel and electric powertrain options. Interestingly, the Sierra ICE will launch before the Sierra EV. As a reminder, Tata had showcased the near-production Sierra ICE at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo.
The Tata Sierra will be marketed as a lifestyle SUV in our market. Tata Motors has already started testing both ICE and electric versions of the Sierra SUV. Going by the spy images available on the Internet, it is visible that the new Sierra will look largely similar to the concept showcased at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo.
Tata Motors has already patented the exterior and interior design of the Sierra lifestyle SUV, which appears largely identical to the original concept. Tata designers have done good job in retaining the original design without compromising on the premium quotient.
Some of the design highlights include raised bonnet, rounded front fascia that houses full-width LED light bar, prominent faux silver skid plate and raised bonnet.
The SUV gets squared-off wheel arch cladding, newly-designed alloy wheel, floating rear spoiler, flush-type door handles, dual-tone rear bumper with faux silver skid plate, and slab-sided tailgate that houses full-width light bar connecting the taillights.
Sierra EV will definitely get several EV-specific design elements like closed-off front grille, new aero-optimized wheel, different bumper and EV badging on the fenders and tailgate.
The Sierra ICE will be the first Tata product to offer triple screen layout. The near-production model showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo had a uniquely styled dashboard dominated by a full width screen incorporating a central touchscreen unit, a digital instrument console and a passenger screen.
Interestingly, the leaked patent images reveal that the Tata Sierra EV interior will have the typical dual-screen setup with a large centrally mounted touchscreen infotainment unit and a separate housing for a digital driver's display. It has sleek air-con vents and a 4-spoke multi-functional steering wheel. The push start-stop button on the right side of the steering wheel, and a rotator knob placed right below it.
In terms of features, the Tata Sierra to get wireless phone charger, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front and rear seats, multi-colour ambient lighting, auto dimming IRVM, 360 degree surround view camera, ventilated seats and others. The lifestyle SUV will also come with LEVEL 2 ADAS suite with features like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, auto high beam and others.
The Tata Sierra will mark the debut of brand's new 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that was showcased at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. This powertrain is capable of producing 167bhp of power and 280Nm of torque. Gearbox options could include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT.
Tata is most likely to use the 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine, sourced from Fiat-Chrysler, to power the Sierra lifestyle SUV. This engine is capable of producing 167bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. Transmission choices could include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. Tata could also use the smaller 1.5L turbo diesel engine that produces 116bhp and 250Nm of torque. Transmission choices could include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT.
The new Tata Sierra ICE will be positioned right between the Curvv and Harrier. It is expected to be priced somewhere between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 20 lakh. The Sierra ICE will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and others in the segment. The electric model is estimated to be priced around Rs 22 lakh and Rs 28 lakh.
