Tata Motors has officially announced that the long-awaited Sierra lifestyle SUV will arrive in our market in FY2026. It was speculated that Tata Motors will launch the ICE version of the Sierra before EV. However, Tata has confirmed that the Sierra will first launch as an EV, followed by an ICE version.
The electric SUV is likely to be based on the Acti.ev architecture that also underpins the Harrier EV and Curvv EV. The SUV could come with multiple battery pack options along with AWD and FWD layout. However, few media reports suggest that the Sierra EV will only come as a FWD SUV.
The company has already patented the interior and exterior design of the Sierra EV. The SUV will have dual-screen setup with a large centrally mounted touchscreen and a separate housing for a digital driver’s display. In terms of features, the Sierra EV will have wireless phone charger, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front and rear seats, 360-degree surround view camera and LEVEL 2 ADAS.
It is likely to share the battery pack options with the Harrier EV, which is scheduled to be launched on June 3, 2025. The SUV is expected to offer a range of around 500km on a full charge.
Tata Motors had showcased the closer-to-production version of the Sierra ICE at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. The SUV appears largely identical to the Sierra EV; however, it has some ICE-specific design elements like functional air dams and grille, and different alloys. Another addition was the availability of a triple screen layout with a dedicated display for co-occupant.
The Sierra ICE will be offered with petrol and diesel engine options. The SUV will get the new 1.5L, 4-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 167bhp and 280Nm of torque. It will be paired to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT. The diesel version could be offered with a 2.0L turbo unit or a 1.5L turbo unit. Both manual and automatic gearbox choices will be on offer.
