Tata Motors has showcased multiple new SUVs and future concepts at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. The main attraction was Sierra, which was, for the first time, revealed with petrol engine. The Tata Sierra will be the next SUV from the homegrown automaker to be offered with petrol, diesel and electric powertrain options.
Tata Curvv and Nexon are the two SUVs from the homegrown automaker that offers petrol, diesel and electric powertrain options. The Sierra will be the third Tata SUV to come with these three different engines. Tata Motors is also expected to introduce the petrol derivatives of the Harrier and Safari.
Tata Motors had announced two turbo petrol engines - a 1.2L T-GDI and 1.5L T-GDI at the 2023 Auto Expo. The 1.2L T-GDI is already in the market and powers the Curvv ICE. The 1.5L turbo petrol engine will power Tata's big SUVs including the Sierra, Harrier and Safari.
The new 1.5L TGDI engine is capable of producing 170PS of power and 280Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic gearbox options will be on offer.
The diesel version of the Sierra will get the same 2.0L Kryotec engine that powers the Harrier and Safari. This engine is capable of producing 170bhp and 350Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
The Sierra EV is expected to be offered with a 75kWh battery pack with a dual electric motor and AWD configuration. It is likely to give a certified range of over 500km on a single charge. The SUV will offer V2L and V2V charging functionalist.
