Tesla has now initiated the homologation process for two of its electric cars, Model 3 and Model Y for India. The American automaker is set to begin its launch in the Indian market in the upcoming months. The CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk is aiming to import EVs in India with no immediate manufacturing plans. The first showroom in the world's third-largest car market of the automaker is closer to being finalized.
Let's have a look at what these upcoming U.S.-based EVs will be offering in the country.
The Model 3 is a compact electric sedan offered by the automaker in three variants, Standard Range Plus, Long Range, and Performance. It comes with features like a 15-inch touchscreen display, OTA updates, customizable ambient lighting, wireless charging, full self-driving capability, ADAS, Sentry mode, 8 airbags, and many advanced technologies.
The battery pack of the vehicle features a 54kWh battery pack in the Standard variant (83bhp and 420Nm of torque) claiming to range 430km (WLTP), and the Long-Range AWD variant comes with an 82kWh battery (441bhp and 493Nm of torque) with claimed WLTP range of 580km and the top-end Performance AWD variant is powered by a 82kWh battery that promises a range of 547km.
The Model Y is an electric SUV which is packed with various advanced technology. The SUV is offered in multiple configurations globally, including the RWD with a 60 kWh battery, a Long Range AWD with an 82kWh battery, and Performance AWD with an 82kWh battery pack.
These variants of the model are claimed to offer a WLTP range of 455 km, 507km, and 470 km, respectively. This model shares about 75% components with the Model 3.
The dates for the Tesla launch in India have not been revealed yet, however, both models are expected to come in the second half of 2025.
