New Tesla Roadster set to debut on October 1, 2026. Teaser reveals a large rear wing and full-width LED tail-lights. SpaceX package could offer rocket thrusters for enhanced performance.
Tesla is finally set to reveal the production-spec Roadster on October 1, 2026. The American EV maker has confirmed the debut through its official social media handle, almost nine years after the Roadster concept was first shown. Tesla has also released a teaser of the upcoming electric sports car. The image gives a glimpse of its rear design, while the company has used the phrases “10.01” and “Go for launch” to announce the upcoming reveal.
The teaser gives the clearest look yet at the production Roadster. It shows a large rear wing, full-width LED tail-lights and four horizontally arranged nozzles at the back. The nozzles are linked to Tesla’s proposed SpaceX option package for the Roadster. Elon Musk has previously said that the rocket thrusters could help improve acceleration, top speed, braking and cornering. The production version appears more aggressive than the Roadster concept shown in 2017. Tesla has not yet revealed the complete exterior design, so more details are expected when the car makes its official debut.

The original Roadster concept came with some ambitious performance figures. Tesla claimed a maximum range of 620 miles, or around 998km, along with a top speed of more than 250mph (over 402kph). The concept was also claimed to accelerate from 0-60mph (0-97kph) in 1.9 seconds. Elon Musk later said that the SpaceX package could reduce the 0-60mph time to just 1.1 seconds. These figures were announced for the Roadster concept, and Tesla is yet to confirm the final specifications of the production model.
The second-generation Tesla Roadster was first showcased in November 2017, but its production timeline has been pushed back several times over the years. In November 2025, Elon Musk said the Roadster would be launched in April 2026. That timeline was not met, and Tesla has now confirmed October 1 as the date for the production-spec reveal. The debut will take place in Waco, Texas. Tesla has also invited people who have already reserved the Roadster to attend the event. The company had previously listed a reservation amount of GBP 38,000.
