The Indian automotive industry has witnessed significant growth in May 2024. According to the latest monthly sales report, Maruti Suzuki has topped the chart with the newly launched Swift hatchback and other six of its car models. However, Tata Nexon could not secure its position in the list which was once the best-selling car for three years consecutively.

As shown in the sales report, Maruti Suzuki has dominated the list with its seven best-selling car models. The new-generation Swift has secured the first position by clocking 19,393 units in just one month since its launch on May 9. Compared to last year's sales, its YoY growth has increased by 12%.
Other Maruti cars such as Dzire, Wagon R, Brezza, Ertiga, Baleno, and Fronx have also recorded the best numbers this year. However, the Wagon R and Baleno have witnessed a YoY decline while the Dzire, Brezza, Ertiga, and Fronx have seen positive growth compared to the last year.
The rest of the car models that witnessed significant growth belong to the brands like Tata, Hyundai, and Mahindra. Tata Punch secured the second position by clocking 70% YoY growth with 18,949 units this year over the 11,124 units in May 2023.
Hyundai Creta did not see much difference as it only recorded 1% YoY growth with 14,662 units while last year it had 14,449 units. Mahindra Scorpio witnessed a significant growth of 47% this year compared to the last year. It recorded 13,717 units in May 2024 while in May 2023, it only sold 9,318 units.
