Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has announced that its popular Fortuner and Legender premium SUVs cumulative sales crossed 3 lakh mark in India. These numbers clearly suggest the huge popularity of the Fortuner nameplate in India.
First launched in 2009, the Toyota Fortuner has been the best-selling and most popular premium SUV in the Indian market. Despite carrying high price tag, the Fortuner nameplate remains the top-selling model. It is known for its reliability, strong resale-value and low-maintenance cost along with good on-and off-road performance.
The Fortuner and Toyota Legender are based on a rugged ladder-frame architecture and features a four-wheel-drive capabilities, making it the ideal choice for adventurers and enthusiasts. It is powered by a 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine that is capable of producing 201bhp and 500Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.
Customers can also buy the petrol derivative of the Fortuner, which is powered by a 2.7-litre engine. Paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox, the petrol engine produces 164bhp and 245Nm of torque. It is only available in a rear-wheel-drive configuration.
Toyota had launched the Legender based on the Fortuner in 2021. This model offers a more luxurious and feature-packed experience to customers. It has exclusive dual-tone styling, sequential LED turn indicators, wireless charging, and an 11-speaker JBL audio system.
Speaking on the milestone, Mr. Varinder Wadhwa, Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said, “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the passionate Fortuner and Legender fan base in India for their unwavering trust in our brand as we celebrate the remarkable 3-lakh milestone of our most admired SUV. The Fortuner and Legender remains a top choice among SUV enthusiasts who seek a perfect blend of luxury, performance, and reliability. Whether navigating city streets or tackling challenging terrains, it offers premium feel paired with robust strength. Built on the solid foundation of Toyota’s renowned QDR (Quality, Durability and Reliability) philosophy – the Fortuner and Legender embodies the core value that define our engineering and manufacturing excellence. These principles are central to Toyota’s global reputation for delivering vehicles that not only last but perform consistently and retain their value over time, thus bringing mass happiness to all”
