We have just had a quick look at the cockpit of the upcoming Mini Cooper Electric. Promising to be "more Mini than ever before", the iconic Cooper Electric will be manufactured in China on a new front-wheel-drive platform under Spotlight Automotive, a new joint venture between BMW and the Great Wall Motor.
As seen in the image, the Mini Cooper features a revamped interior with an extensive central touchscreen, similar to the classic central speedometer seen in every Mini hatch since the original Austin Seven. Flaunting its new graphics and motifs, the screen features a completely revised interface.
Apart from this, the four-wheeler also features a distinctive LED lighting pattern along with a knitted dashboard and toggle switches for climate controls. In an unprecedented move, the company has decided to move the drive-selector lever behind the steering wheel. Meanwhile, the low-set centre console accommodated cupholders, a spacious storage cubby and USB-C charging ports.
The 2024 Mini Cooper SE will have the same power output of 183 bhp as the current generation model. This is sufficient to complete the 0-100 kmph in just 7.0 seconds. However, enthusiasts can look forward to a more powerful version, promising to deliver 217 bhp. Besides, it is positioned as a contender in the emerging hot hatch segment.
The next-gen Electric Cooper will carry a 40kWh battery with a claimed range of 386 km. On the other hand, the Cooper SE will be powered by a 54 kWh battery pack, capable of delivering a claimed range of 482 km.
The all-new electric Cooper will be launched in the UK market by May 2024. Its petrol variant will also hit the market about 2 months later. Following its launch in global markets, the Mini Cooper will arrive in the Indian market soon after.
