MG Hector Hawk will be available in EV and plug-in hybrid versions. The EV offers a claimed 530 km driving range. The plug-in hybrid promises over 1,000 km on a full charge and fuel tank.
JSW MG Motor India is preparing to launch the all-new Hector Hawk on August 28, and it is bringing something new to the premium SUV segment. Instead of offering a single powertrain, the company will introduce the SUV with both electric and plug-in hybrid options, giving buyers the freedom to choose what suits their driving needs.
While the EV focuses on zero-emission driving, the plug-in hybrid combines electric power with a petrol engine for longer journeys without charging worries.
The biggest talking point of the Hector Hawk is its dual powertrain strategy. The electric version is aimed at buyers who mostly drive in cities and want lower running costs. On the other hand, the plug-in hybrid is designed for those who frequently travel long distances but still want the benefits of electric driving for daily use. With both versions arriving together, MG is giving buyers two very different ways to experience an electrified SUV.

The Hector Hawk EV is expected to use a 69.2 kWh battery pack paired with a front-mounted electric motor. The motor is expected to produce 201 hp and 310 Nm of torque, while the SUV is claimed to deliver a driving range of 530 km under the CLTC testing cycle. The battery will also support DC fast charging, making it easier to recharge during long trips.
For buyers who are not ready to switch to a fully electric vehicle, MG will also offer a plug-in hybrid version. It is expected to use a 1.5-litre petrol engine, an electric motor and a 20.5 kWh battery pack. The combined output is likely to be around 195 hp and 230 Nm.
The SUV is expected to deliver up to 125 km of pure electric driving. Once the battery charge is used, the petrol engine takes over, helping the Hector Hawk achieve a combined driving range of more than 1,000 km with a full battery and fuel tank.
The Hector Hawk is not just a new powertrain option. It is an entirely new SUV based on the Wuling Starlight 560, unlike the current Hector sold in India. It will also become the first MG model in the country to use the company's ADAPT platform, which has been developed to support electric, plug-in hybrid, strong hybrid and range-extender technologies. The SUV gets a fresh design with split LED daytime running lights, rectangular headlamps, connected LED tail lamps and a bold SUV stance.
Inside, the Hector Hawk is expected to offer a premium and technology-packed cabin. Features are likely to include an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, panoramic sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, automatic climate control, connected car technology and a wireless phone charger.
Safety is also expected to be a strong point, with six airbags, Level 2 ADAS, tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic parking brake, parking sensors and a rear-view camera.
Once launched, the Hector Hawk EV will compete with premium electric SUVs such as the Mahindra XEV 9S and the upcoming Tata Harrier EV. Meanwhile, the plug-in hybrid version is expected to rival SUVs like the Mahindra XUV 7XO, giving buyers another electrified alternative in the segment.
