After months of spy shots and teaser images, homegrown automaker, Maruti Suzuki has finally unveiled the Jimny 5-door at the recently concluded 2023 Delhi Auto Expo. This was the global debut for the new model, with India the first market where the SUV will be going on sale. With bookings already open, how excited are you for the rugged 4x4? Here are ‘5 Things You Need to Know about Jimny 5-door’.

If you have seen the Jimny 3-door before, then the new 5-door will look familiar to you as it stays largely similar to its sibling. The SUV retains the design highlights with the boxy profile, ruler-straight lines, circular LED-projector headlights, chunky wheel arches and upright pillars. You will notice the new rear-doors and increased length right away, as well as the new vertical rear quarter glass that’s sandwiched between the thick C and D-pillars. There are some subtle changes as well like the new chrome inserts on the slatted front grille instead of the all-black grille on the 3-door model.

Inside, the interior of the Jimny 5-door gets an all-black colour theme with brushed silver accents and a dashboard-fitted grab handle on the front passenger side. Overall, the layout is rugged and utilitarian, with a row of knobs and toggle switches below the infotainment screen for the climate control and other features, reminding you it is a hardcore 4x4 first.
Speaking of features, the Jimny 5-door gets Maruti’s 7-inch SmartPlay infotainment screen in the Zeta trim while the Alpha offers the larger 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on both models. Other equipment include a MID display for the driver, auto climate control, an audio setup from ARKAMYS, push button start/stop, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and more.
Since it is a true-blue off-roader, the Jimny 5-door comes with Suzuki’s All-Grip Pro 4WD system with a low-range gearbox and manual transfer case.
Mechanically, the New Jimny 5-door will be offered with a single engine option, Maruti’s K15B 1.5-litre Naturally Aspirated petrol motor featuring mild-hybrid tech. It is said to deliver a maximum power output of 103 bhp with 134 Nm of peak torque. Transmission choices here include a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
Maruti Jimny 5-door is being offered in two variants in India, the Zeta and Alpha. While the latter will get all the aforementioned features, the former will lose out on auto climate control, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a bigger infotainment screen.
The company is offering 7-colour options for the new SUV, 2 dual-tone and 5 mono-tone. This includes Kinetic Yellow, Sizzling Red, Nexa Blue, Granite Gray, Pearl Arctic White, Bluish Black, and Sizzling Red with a Bluish Black roof.

The automaker stated that the Jimny 5-door will be launched by mid-2023. Bookings have already begun at a token amount of Rs 25,000. While the brand did not confirm anything, expect prices to start from around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
Upon launch, the Maruti Jimny 5-door will rival the likes of the upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door and Force Gurkha 5-door in the lifestyle 4x4 segment. On the basis of expected pricing it could indirectly compete against the Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue.
