Land Rover is all set to launch a range of EVs by 2026, with an all-electric Range Rover as their first to debut this year. Apart from that, Land Rover is working on another model, which is the electric Range Rover Velar. It is said that this model would be reinvented as a slick, luxury electric SUV.
The car has been spied recently during winter testing, so let's have a deep look at what we can expect from this SUV.
The electric Velar has a very sporty appearance just like the ICE version, as seen in spy images. It seems to have a low roofline with a tapering side window design.
Along with it, the back door and wheel make it look like the SUV could get a third row of seats. The ICE model has only two rows. Other design features that can be seen are the clamshell bonnet, large alloy wheels, and flush door handles. Also, the registration plate has moved from the tailgate to the back bumper it seems in the spied images.
Information on its tech and capabilities are yet to be revealed but the EMA is likely to be more road-focused than the MLA structure.
It has been confirmed that the Velar, Evoque, and Discovery Sport successors will be purely electric rather than hosting hybrid powertrains as initially planned.
The electric Velar is going to be the first EV that would be built on Land Rover's new EMA electric vehicle architecture. It is also said that the bigger Range Rover EV will use an electrified version of the MLA platform, which is also used in the ICE-powered Range Rover.
The electric Velar is expected to rival the Porsche Macan EV when it goes on sale.
