While most of the automakers are aiming to introduce new electric vehicles, Japanese brands like Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are focusing on hybrid as well as EVs for the Indian market. Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are currently offering 4 hybrid cars, all powered by Toyota engines, in the Indian market. However, MSIL has started working on an affordable series hybrid system for its entry-level cars.
Moreover, Hyundai is also planning to launch an all-new 7-seater SUV with a hybrid powertrain in the Indian market by 2027. In this news, we talk about the upcoming new hybrid cars from Maruti Suzuki and Toyota in India in 2025.
Maruti Suzuki will give a mid-life update to its one of the best-selling models, the Fronx in the Indian market in 2025. The Fronx facelift will be the first model to debut Maruti's new hybrid engine. This hybrid unit will comprise a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, Z12R engine, a smaller battery pack (1.5-2kWh) and one electric motor. In this hybrid setup, the engine will act as a generator to charge the battery pack.
The Fronx facelift will also receive Level 1 ADAS ADAS kit with features like Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Following Assist, High Beam Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Vehicle Departure Alert, and more.
Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are working on an all-new 3-row SUVs, which will be launched in the country in 2025. MSIL will launch the 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara, while Toyota will introduce the 7-seater version of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Both models will be based on the existing Global C-platform, which will be significantly modified to accommodate a longer wheelbase and a bigger SUV.
Codenamed Y17, the new Suzuki Grand Vitara 7-Seater SUV is likely to be launched by mid-2025. Both 6 and 7-seater versions of the SUV will be on offer. It will be the first vehicle to be produced at Maruti Suzuki's new Kharkhoda-based facility in Haryana, which will be operational in 2025.
Toyota's 7-seater SUV is also expected to be produced at the same production line. Both models are likely to source the engine options with the 5-seater sibling. It could be offered with 1.5L K15C petrol mild-hybrid and 1.5L Atkinson cycle strong hybrid powertrain. The new 7-seater Maruti and Toyota SUVs are likely to offer more features compared to the 5-seater models. The SUVs could offer advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) and AWD setup.
