The first-ever BMW i5 has finally been launched in the Indian market. Available as an exclusive BMW M Performance model, BMW i5 M60 xDrive, the new electric BMW is available at an ex-showroom price of Rs 1.20 crore. It is available at all BMW dealerships across India as a completely Built-Up Unit (CBU) model from today onwards.
The BMW i5 M60 xDrive is available in Alpine White as non-metallic paintwork. The metallic colour options include M Brooklyn Grey, M Carbon Black, Cape York Green, Phytonic Blue, Black Sapphire, Sophisto Grey, Oxide Grey and Mineral White. BMW Individual paintworks are also available as an option - Fronzen Deep Grey, Frozen Portimao Blue, Frozen Pure Grey and Tansanite Blue.
The new BMW i5 electric comes with illuminated BMW kidney grille and standard Adaptive LED Headlights (offering cornering light and the Matrix High Beam including the glare-free High Beam Assist BMW Selective Beam). It features a front apron with black surfaces and large air intakes, horizontal slats and M logo, side skirts and exterior mirror caps finished in high-gloss black, 20-inch M light alloy wheels and a rear apron with a pronounced diffuser insert signal. It also comes with a host of M specific design features including the large air intakes at the front, flared side skirts, a rear apron with diffuser insert and the M high-gloss shadow line.
The cabin looks similar to the 5-Series, featuring a 12.3-inch digital driver's display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. The infotainment unit runs the iDrive 8.5 operating system, which is based on Linux software. It offers gaming and video playback functions. In terms of features, the sedan gets ambient lighting, heated front seats with 4-way power lumbar support, automatic climate control with a micro filter, BMW Active Driving Assistant and a reverse camera.
It is packed with a dual electric motor setup, offering all-wheel-drive layout. The combined power and torque output stands at 509bhp and 795Nm of torque, which further increases to 593bhp and 820Nm when 'Sport' mode or launch control are activated. It is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph acceleration in just 3.8 seconds before hitting a top speed of 230kmph.
The all-electric BMW i5 comes with an 81.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which is placed under the floor of the car. It is claimed to offer a WLTP range of up to 516km on a single charge. It comes with a 11kW AC charger as standard, and customers can also opt for a 22kW AC charger with an optional onboard charger. Using a 205kW DC Charger, the all-electric BMW i5 battery can be charged from 10-80 percent within 30 minutes.
