On the sidelines of the Japan Mobility Show, Honda has announced its product strategy for the Indian market. The company will launch 10 new cars, including 7 SUVs in the country by 2030. Honda has also clearly stated that they will majorly focus on the US, Japan and India to drive sales.
Honda stated that it will make new investments in India; however, more details on the same will be revealed in the near future. Another update is that the Japanese brand has confirmed that its major focus will be on sub-4 meter products. This suggests that a sub-4 meter SUV could be introduced sooner than expected in our market.
Honda will also bring some of its global cars as CBUs or CKDs in India. At the ongoing Japan Motor Show, the company has showcased a new 0 Alpha SUV concept which will be launched in India in 2027. In fact, the SUV will be locally developed for the domestic as well as global markets. Honda will also introduce the 0 Series SUV in India in 2026-27 as a completely imported model.
If reports are to be believed, Honda will launch its first hybrid SUV in India in 2026. The new model could be the Honda Elevate hybrid, which will utilise the upgraded version of Honda’s 1.5L Atkinson cycle engine with e:HEV tech. The new SUV will rival the likes of the Maruti Victoris, Toyota Hyryder and the upcoming Hybrid SUVs, including Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta.
Moreover, Honda is developing an all-new modular platform, codenamed PF2, which will be compatible with both hybrid and electric powertrains. A new 7-seater SUV and the next-gen City sedan will be based on this new platform. Both vehicles will come with a strong hybrid engine along with a petrol unit.
Honda is also developing a new sub-4 meter SUV based on the PF2 platform, which is likely to be offered with a hybrid powertrain. The Japanese brand could develop a new hybrid system to power its mass-market cars. With a strong focus on sub-4 meter cars, we can expect multiple vehicles in the category, including hatchbacks, sedans, and crossovers. Honda also said that, if required, flex fuel vehicles could be launched in our market.
