Hyundai to Launch New Bayon and Compact Electric SUV by Year-End
Hyundai will launch the new Bayon in India in October 2026. The new compact EV is expected to offer up to 500 km of range. The Bayon could get petrol and CNG options, while the EV is likely to use LFP batteries.
Hyundai is getting ready to add two new SUVs to its India line-up before the end of 2026. The new-generation Bayon is expected to arrive in October, while a new compact electric SUV is planned for December. The two SUVs will target different parts of the market. The Bayon is expected to get petrol and CNG options, while the new EV will take on models such as the Tata Nexon.ev, Kia Syros EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV.
New Hyundai Bayon Coming in October
The second-generation Bayon will be Hyundai’s second locally made mid-size SUV after the Creta. The first-generation Bayon was mainly made for Europe, but the new model has been developed with India and other markets in mind. Hyundai has confirmed that the new Bayon will be around 4.2 metres long. It will also have a more SUV-like design than the outgoing model. The teasers show a boxy shape, a tall stance and a more muscular look. The new design is also expected to offer more space inside, along with a bigger boot and better ground clearance.
Petrol and CNG Options Expected
The new Bayon is expected to use a 1.5-litre petrol engine. A CNG version is also likely to be offered. Hyundai could use an underbody-mounted CNG tank to save space in the boot. A CVT automatic gearbox has been confirmed for the new SUV. It is expected to be offered with the petrol version. The CNG model could come with a manual gearbox. The Bayon will add another option for buyers looking for a practical SUV with a CNG powertrain.
New Compact Electric SUV Coming in December
Hyundai will launch a new compact electric SUV in December. Currently known by its codename HE1i, the upcoming EV will be smaller than Hyundai’s larger electric SUVs. It will compete with the Tata Nexon.ev, Kia Syros EV and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV. The new model is expected to have a boxy and rugged design, giving it a proper SUV look. Hyundai has also confirmed some details about the cabin. It will get a 9.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Level 2 ADAS is also expected.
Two Battery Options Likely
The new Hyundai EV is expected to use LFP battery cells and could be offered with two battery options. The larger battery is expected to offer around 500 km of claimed range. Hyundai had earlier planned to use battery cells from Exide Energy. However, delays in Exide’s battery cell production have reportedly led Hyundai to look for another supplier.
The company is now expected to source the initial battery cells from Chinese manufacturer Svolt. The use of LFP batteries could also help Hyundai keep the EV’s price competitive.
Hyundai Expanding Its SUV Range
The new Bayon and compact electric SUV will give Hyundai two new models in growing segments. The Bayon will bring petrol and CNG options, while the new EV will target the affordable electric SUV space. With both SUVs expected to launch before the end of 2026, Hyundai will have two important new additions to its India range.
